The surface low is heading into central Vancouver Island. Winds are starting to increase across all of Western Washington...particularly the southwest interior where a high wind warning is in affect for wind gusts in excess of 65 mph. As the surface low continues to weaken and track inland, winds should continue to increase for the next few hours before quickly subsiding. I don't think we'll see widespread wind gusts like this morning, but it will definitely be a windy afternoon.

UPDATE: We just had a wind gust of 42 mph. Pretty impressive stuff. Lights are beginning to flicker.

Sustained winds at 52mph, that's amazing. We never have sustained winds at my house, they are always gusty.

Anthony hasn't posted for a while, he must have lost his power!
Or he is out fixing his fence that blew away

Winds here are gusting about 25MPH, and dry for the moment.
Temp is 50.1 degrees

Yeah, my guess is that he lost power.

Currently we have winds averaging around 10mph, with slightly stronger gusts (to about 18mph). Nothing like most other people are seeing.

Any other chances of a windstorm later tonight or even tommorow? Anything at all? :?:

Justin...In our area we pretty much escape the big south wind events, but we certainly get the east wind. Needless to say, some locations have gotten some serious winds out of this low.

I cannot wait for this cold front to come through. The temps on the coast are 10 - 12 degrees lower than the interior, so it will be a sharp one. The NWS has just said that any precip the mountains get for this entire week will be snow! They said that there will be a brief a period on Saturday when the snow level will go above the passes, and then it's right back down again. Welcome to spring! :D

Pretty soon all of the freakish warmth we had earlier this month will be forgotten and people will be moaning about the endless cold and wet.

Spent the day cleaning up construction materials around the house we are building.

So strange in this situation... almost dead calm up there and in North Bend all day. Torrential rain about an hour ago but no wind. Microclimates are amazing.

Looking out the window now... the trees are perfectly still.

This pattern change is nothing short of spectacular.

I think its starting to become a "Wild March".

Well it has been blowing constantly since last night. It lightened up in the early morning hours and the winds died down to about 8mph... Currently it's blowing 25-30 and gusting from 40-45mph. I can hear braches breaking in the forest and crashing down. I have gotten .6 inches of rain since midnight last night and it hasn't rained since this morning. Looks like it should start up pretty soon here.

Didn't lose power at my house but...

I went to the Mukilteo library to study, and they lost power around 3:30 pm. They didn't close though...but you couldn't do anything...too dark. The winds have really calmed down the past 20, 30 minutes...but until that cold front passes, we will probably see some more gusty winds.

As for this week, not bad. Monday should be cool and showery, but Tuesday and Wednesday may be partly sunny and seasonal. Then a weak shortwave drops down from Canada, but models aren't handling the system very well. It could be dry Thursday, or it may rain. Then next weekend could be interesting again as another strong cold front smashes into the PNW. I have to admit, now that we have this active weather I like it!! But I know after two weeks of this, I'll want the warm/dry weather back again. lol.

snow_wizzard,

Do things still look right for the convergence zone to set-up south and east of Seattle as you previously stated in another thread?

Justin...There will not be a convergence zone. In this case the bulk of the shower activity will be directed south of Seattle.

The cold front is roaring in now! Plunging temps, west winds to 25, and fairly heavy rain. Nice!

Wow! The temperature just dropped 10 F in less than 20 minutes. We have moderate rain and breezy conditions as of 5:15 PM.

O.K... the front OBVIOUSLY made it to North Bend.

The winds are really strong now. We have TORRENTIAL rain AND hail. The hail is pounding on the windows and bouncing off the street.

That was quite a contrast in weather when the cold front passed. Out of seemingly nowhere the winds kicked up, hard rain fell, and the temperature plummeted. When KOMO 4 started their newscast many sites were in the 50's, then 40 minutes later the temps ranged from the upper 30's to middle 40's. This is what I call "Weather".

What is up with the PATHETIC rainfall totals?

Based on the radar... I would think they would be much higher.

Even here... it has been raining HARD off and on and we are only at .45 so far.

Like .07 in Kent and .09 in Auburn.

That is a joke with a front as strong as this one has been.

We need MORE.
