A CYCLONE WARNING continues for coastal and island communities between The
NORTHERN TERRITORY BORDER and KURI BAY in Western Australia, including WYNDHAM,
and extending inland to DRYSDALE RIVER STATION.

At 11:30 pm WST [1:00 am CST] SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE INGRID, now CATEGORY 4,
was located by radar over land about 40 kilometres north northeast of KALUMBURU
and 220 kilometres northwest of WYNDHAM, moving generally southwest at 15
kilometres per hour.

The VERY DESTRUCTIVE CORE of SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE INGRID, with gusts to 260
kilometres per hour, is expected to affect KALUMBURU for the next 3 to 5 hours.

DESTRUCTIVE WINDS with gusts to 160 kilometres per hour are affecting the area
within 65 kilometres of the centre, and may continue until mid-morning at
KALUMBURU.

GALES with gusts to 120 kilometres per hour are affecting the coast between
MITCHELL PLATEAU and WYNDHAM, and will extend inland towards DRYSDALE RIVER
STATION during Wednesday. At this stage WYNDHAM is only expected to be on the
outer edge of INGRID.

Gales may extend further southwest to KURI BAY by Wednesday afternoon if INGRID
takes a more westward track, though this is considered less likely. The cyclone
will gradually weaken during Wednesday as it travels further inland.

DANGEROUSLY HIGH TIDES could cause EXTENSIVE FLOODING at the coast between
TRUSCOTT and BERKELEY RIVER MOUTH tonight.

HEAVY RAIN may cause flooding of low lying areas and significant river and
stream rises in the north and east KIMBERLEY.

One of the things which has impressed me most about ingrid is how fast it's able to intensify... Looks at this below... Twice, Ingrid has skipped 2 full categories on the SS scale within 12 hour updates.

Some reports of damage are beginning to come in from Kalumburu.

However, because Ingrid is still lashing the area, a full assessment won't be available for a while. One report says winds are definitely in excess of 200 km/h (125 mph).

One resident says he's been through several cyclones but none like this. He says his house is vibrating from the winds. He is concerned that because the houses are all built to different codes, some might not withstand the cyclone.

Because Ingrid has slowed down, flooding is now a concern.

First time i have followed a cyclone in australian waters, and was absolutely amazing to see it traverse the country.

kilometres per hour, is expected to move away from KALUMBURU during the next 2

Just heard on this mornings news, that Ingrid is the first cyclone in australian recorded history to affect 3 states as a catergory 4 or 5.
It seems to be stallin over Kalumburu. Apparently no emergency service personell are able to leave and check the town yet. Kalumburu recived a peak in the wind gusts at 1am AWST, which is nearly 10 hrs ago. Therefore i would hate to see the damage that this town has recieved.
My thoughts are with them....

kilometres west southwest of KALUMBURU and 220 kilometres west northwest of

The VERY DESTRUCTIVE CORE of SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE INGRID, with gusts to 175
kilometres per hour, is expected to move away from KALUMBURU shortly.

DESTRUCTIVE WINDS with gusts to 140 kilometres per hour are affecting the area
within 65 kilometres of the centre, and may continue until late morning at
KALUMBURU.

GALES with gusts to 120 kilometres per hour are affecting the coast between
MITCHELL PLATEAU and WYNDHAM. The cyclone is expected to follow a more southward
track later today, causing GALES to extend to DRYSDALE RIVER STATION during the
afternoon and possibly GIBB RIVER tonight.

Gales may extend further southwest to KURI BAY by later this afternoon if INGRID

Very possible, even with the drought in the area, such volume of water in a short period of time could have very serious consequences.

Faraway Bay, an isolated wilderness retreat and tourist resort has been all but destroyed by Ingrid. According to a staff member, the frames of the main building are all that remains.

Two caretakers at the Faraway Bay resort had been listed as missing. However, the owner of the resort says they have contacted him and are all right.

They took shelter in a metal shipping container anchored by rocks. Although uninjured, both caretakers were pretty shakened by the ordeal. (I don't blame them.)

A CYCLONE WARNING is now current for a CATEGORY 2 CYCLONE for communities
between Mitchell Plateau and the Northern Territory border and extending inland
to Drysdale River Station.

At 6 pm WST TROPICAL CYCLONE INGRID was inland from the coast and estimated to
be
110 kilometres southeast of Kalumburu and
110 kilometres west northwest of Wyndham
moving southeast at 12 kilometres per hour.

Destructive winds with gusts to 125 kilometres per hour are affecting the area
within 30 kilometres of the centre. Gales with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour
are affecting an area within 80 kilometres of the centre.

Tropical Cyclone Ingrid is expected to continue weakening as it moves to the
south east. Gales may extend southwards to Drysdale River Station and eastwards
to Wyndham tonight. During Thursday morning the system is expected to weaken
below cyclone strength, though a brief period of gales may extend as far east as
Kununurra.

Widespread heavy rain and flooding will continue in northern parts of the
Kimberley over the next 24 to 48 hours.

A CYCLONE WARNING is current for a CATEGORY 1 CYCLONE for communities in the far
northeast Kimberley including Wyndham, Kununurra and Oombulgurri.

At 3am WST TROPICAL CYCLONE INGRID was over the Kimberley about
10 kilometres northeast of Wyndham and
70 kilometres northwest of Kununurra
moving east southeast at 14 kilometres per hour.

Damaging winds with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour are affecting the area
within about 50 kilometres of the centre.

Tropical Cyclone Ingrid is expected to continue weakening and be below cyclone
intensity later this morning. However damaging winds may occur at Oombulgurri
and Wyndham, possibly extending to Kununurra before the system weakens.

Widespread heavy rain and flooding will continue in northern and eastern parts
of the Kimberley over the next 24 to 48 hours.
