URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 149
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
400 PM CDT WED APR 23 2003

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

SOUTH CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS

EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 400 PM UNTIL
1000 PM CDT.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS
TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 65 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST
OF A LINE FROM 25 MILES NORTHEAST OF ARDMORE OKLAHOMA TO 25 MILES
WEST OF TEMPLE TEXAS.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS.

DISCUSSION...BROKEN PRE-FRONTAL BAND OF SEVERE STORMS...INCLUDING
SUPERCELLS...CONTINUES TO DEVELOP EWD FROM NW TX TOWARD N CENTRAL
TX. THE SURFACE WARM FRONT WILL MOVE SLOWLY NWD TOWARD THE RED
RIVER/SRN OK THE NEXT FEW HOURS AS THE LOW LEVELS DESTABILIZE ACROSS
N TX. STRONG LOW-LEVEL SHEAR AND LOW LCL HEIGHTS WILL SUPPORT A
THREAT OF SUPERCELLS WITH TORNADOES THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS.

AVIATION...TORDADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500.
MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 26030.
