Worldwide Tropical Update: 18 February 2005

#1 Postby senorpepr » Thu Feb 17, 2005 9:46 pm

The Storm2K Worldwide Tropical Update for 18 February 2005 at 0000Z.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Olaf (08F/19P) (18/0000Z)
Position: 19.7S 164.3W (565 mi SE of Pago Pago, American Samoa)
Movement: SE at 14 mph
Winds: 145 mph
Pressure: 920 mb / 27.17"
Dvorak Est: T6.0/6.5

Olaf is starting to weaken and the symmetry of the cyclone is no longer as perfect as it was yesterday. Cloud tops are beginning to warm slightly, but Olaf remains powerful until strong divergence aloft and good, although decreasing, outflow. Shear is still relatively low, but some shear associated with an upper-level trough will weaken Olaf.

For more information on the aforementioned system(s), to include official advisories from the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers, go to the Storm2K’s Worldwide Tropical Update website at
