Charley...

#1 Postby Blown Away » Thu Feb 17, 2005 7:58 am

Based on the NHC wind observations, a gust of @172 mph was observed at the medical center and the highest gust reported in Ft. Myers was @78 mph. I didn't see any info that Ft. Myers received sustained hurricane winds. Ft. Myers is @ 18 miles from the medical center, amazing how small that storm was.

It was a tiny core alright.. It's a good thing Charley didn't have more time over water as it was bombing out or things could have been much worse..

I doubt about much worse. Charley was about as powerful as it could have become. The eye was about 5 miles wide. Any more strengthening and an ERC would be necassary. Also, many suggest it was a Cat 5.
