North Carolina Weather Folk Beliefs

I read these while in North Carolina..

If it rains on Monday, it will rain all through the week

Every August fog equals a snow in winter

If your nose itches, it is a sign of rain.

When roosters crow at night expect rain the next day.

If a frog croaks at twelve o'clock, it's a sign of rain.

If you see enough blue sky to patch a jacket, the rain is passing.

A red sky at night means windy weather.

A pinching crawdad will hold on until it hears thunder.

Thunder in february means frost in May.

Lots of nuts and berries means the winter will be severe

heehee Amanzi...I will be starting an 'old wives tales' thread and will include these within them as well. I love to see all the different possible scenarios out there and I have plenty of archives to keep this place rocking a long time! I'll also keep my eyes peeled for some of those, as I've never heard of some of those...thanx!

Some of them are quite odd Keep the info coming Rob, I for one love reading anything weather related.

Heart I was thinking about you on my journeys And I even saw a white bird similar to the one in your Avitar!!

I actualy read those in a local magazine while I was up there. They have a great story in there about an elderly man whose wife used to put jelly beans in a jar for each foggy day before winter, and then during the winter season she would take one out for each snow fall. According to the article the results were always very close at the end of each winter..

I dont think I would be able to use Jelly beans..I love them and would eat them before winter rolled around

lol knowing our luck the darn dog would get into them and then we'd have a full scale blizzard! I'll have to go on a hunt to find some old weather folklore and Farmers Almanac type things so we all can see how strange some of these really are. Stay Tuned!
