Pitt, Aniston Couldn't Agree on Kids
Sunday, January 09, 2005
LOS ANGELES — Brad Pitt's (search) overwhelming desire to have children sunk his marriage to Jennifer Aniston (search), after the "Friends" star decided to put motherhood on hold to pursue her acting career, a pal of the power couple said.
Pitt will now move out of the couple's $13.5 million Beverly Hills mansion, as Aniston keeps the home as the base of operations for her campaign to continue with a full schedule of big-screen rolls.
A pal said Aniston doesn't want to take the time off to have a kid — and she doesn't want to endure the physical effects that giving birth will have on her sexy body.
"It's about the children," the pal said. "She just doesn't want kids right now — and he wants kids."
The mega-couple still love each other despite the split, a source said.
They came to the decision that their nearly five-year marriage was over during a tense huddle in their hotel on the Caribbean island paradise of Anguilla (search), where they were vacationing with friends David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette (search).
Aniston's publicists at the PMK agency planned to break the news to the world yesterday, when they'd be out of the office and could conveniently dodge reporters' calls for two more days.
But Pitt's flacks at Baker Winokur Ryder, another L.A. agency, didn't play along.
When reporters called Pitt's spokeswoman, Cindy Guagenti, her typically straightforward statements suddenly turned vague.
When The Post told Guagenti that it intended to go ahead and report that a divorce was imminent, the couple issued its stunning statement to People magazine.
"We would like to announce that after seven years together, we have decided to formally separate," it began.
Pitt and Aniston returned to the Van Nuys, Calif., airport from their final trip together at 5:19 p.m. Saturday.
What they found was a country aflame with news of their blockbuster breakup.
The ill-fated couple had spent most of 2004 busy plying their acting craft in far-flung locations, sometimes going whole months without seeing each other.
The strain on the marriage could be seen right on Aniston's finger, which was bereft of her wedding ring for much of the past year.
The issue has always been Pitt's desire to be a father and Aniston's desire to remain childless.
Initially, she said she wanted to wait until her popular sitcom, "Friends," had finished its 10-year run.
But when that happened early last year, she started filling her schedule with new projects, not ob/gyn appointments.
On the set of the forthcoming "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," Pitt took an immediate shine to sexy co-star Angelina Jolie.
The former "Sexiest Man Alive" was not craving Jolie's pillowy lips and "Tomb Raider" physique — but time with her 3-year-old son, Maddox.
Pitt spent hours in Jolie's trailer playing with the tot, sources said.
New confidante Jolie advised Pitt to stay with Aniston.
"A friend said that he [told Jolie] that he wanted to leave Jen, and Angelina said 'Don't do it,' " said an industry insider.
A report in the News of The World newspaper in Great Britain yesterday said the last straw in the couple's troubled relationship came when Aniston overheard a call on the couple's house phone in which Pitt and Jolie talked "as lovers do . . . in hushed tones."
But a source told The Post Jolie was not a factor in the breakup, which the source said was solely over the couple's differing views on parenthood.
Pitt has been surprisingly public about his frustration with Aniston's career-first approach to family planning.
"We've been in rehearsals long enough," he told CNN recently.
"It's time, it's time," he told People.
But the problems between the two A-list stars, married since 2000 and reportedly having trouble for almost that long, went deeper than mere fertility. In fact, both Pitt and Aniston have basically admitted they simply are not soul mates.
Last year, he told Vanity Fair, "Jen and I made a pact, that we'll see where this [marriage] is going. I'm not sure it really is in our nature to be with someone for the rest of our lives, just because you made this pact."
If that sounded lukewarm, Aniston told W magazine a year earlier: "Is he the love of my life? I think you're always sort of wondering, 'Are you the love of my life?' He's certainly a big love in my life."
Pitt, 41, and Aniston, 35, have been together since being set up on a blind date in 1998.
They were married two years later at a blockbuster, $1 million Malibu wedding.
But Pitt never lost his taste for excitement.
"He's a smart-ass guy. He loved hanging out with the guys from 'Oceans Twelve' and doing the whole bachelor thing with George Clooney," said one friend.
"But Jennifer is a stay-at-home girl, a nice, boring person," the friend added.
Other sources said Aniston was fed up with Pitt's tinkering.
The couple bought a Beverly Hills home several years ago, but couldn't move into it for two years because Pitt, who fancies himself an architect, was personally overseeing the extensive renovations.
And yet that project might have actually kept them together temporarily.
"Finishing that house was the worst thing that could have happened," said one friend. "They needed another project."
The breakup appeared to be cemented during the couple's Caribbean holiday, which many believe was hurriedly set up by the couple's publicists as something of an extended photo-op for a happy marriage.
It worked for a few days. Most of the celebrity magazines sported large photos of Pitt and Aniston embracing and joking around.
"Brad and Jen Back On!" reported Star magazine.
But their $100,000-a- week Anguilla love nest turned into a little bungalow in a town called Splitsville.

Going from JA to AJ?? I'd pick JA first anyday. AJ is just GROSS!!

Jolie Linked To Pitt and Aniston Split
The reason behind Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's separation remains unclear, with at least three different theories for the split being put forward - two of which involve Angelina Jolie. Pitt publicist Cindy Guagenti issued a statement on behalf of the couple on Friday, in which it was announced they have officially separated after four and a half years of marriage. The most common reason being given for the split is that the couple argued over whether or not to have children. Pitt, 41, is reportedly keen to become a father while former Friends star Aniston is said to want to concentrate on her movie career. Another theory is that Aniston, 34, heard Pitt and his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star Jolie engaging in 'phone sex'. A source tells British newspaper the News Of The World, "(Brad and Angelina) would speak on the phone all the time - always speaking in hushed tones. There was no hiding their affection for each other. Jennifer listened in on the conversation via another extension. I don't know if she accidentally picked up the phone or deliberately did that. Either way, she went ballistic." And, in a further explanation involving sexy Tomb Raider star Jolie, UK tabloid the Daily Star Sunday writes that the marriage finally collapsed because Pitt adores playing father to Jolie's adopted son, Maddox. An insider tells the publication, "Jen became furious when he pointed out that, at 29, Angelina is six years younger than her and is managing to combine motherhood and a successful career."

Angelina Jolie is gross? Wow. I think Jennifer Aniston is attractive but not drop dead gorgeous.
Someone earlier made a reference to Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. I dont think they ever married.
It seems a shame to spend a million dollars on a wedding and then not make the commitment to stay together. If she doesnt want to spoil her perfect hollywood body, then she should consider adoption. She sounds a little self-centered to me.

What makes AJ gross to some is not her looks. But her past I don't know what else to call it but obsession with that other actor. They each wore each other's blood, in vials, around their necks! Now that's gross....so when I read that she might be caught up in this storyline, I thought the same thing as you did Shawn - going from JA to AJ? All he did was flip the initials!!! The two seem far apart to me.
My ex did not want kids either. It realy does hurt when one spouse does not want children. And when the other wants them, the one that does not almost becomes more determined not to comply. That was my case. I'm guessing BP and JA saw Courteney and family, so clearly happy together this past weekend, assuming the baby was along too, and that might have brought the issue to a head. Brad might have decided this is what I want. Shame JA couldn't agree. She isn't 20 anymore ya know....
Sad to say, but someday she may want a baby and have a difficult time conceiving. Just look at all the trouble Courteney C. went thru to have one healthy baby! Maybe that was the urgency too, on Brad's part - thinking it could take he and JA months to conceive.
Well, what do I know. But it is sad how this story is coming out, in bits and pieces now. This is Hollywood. And I didn't like her past quote as saying she wasn't sure if Brad was the love of her life. You just do not say that in an interview! Think it maybe but never voice it! I remember that interview now and at the time, I thought what? It's crazy to say such a thing!
Mary
PS - *Edit....AJ was married to Billy Bob Thornton. That's the actor she swapped blood vials with. Forgot they actually were married. She's also the daughter of Jon Voight. Read her bio....I support your "gross" opinion Shawn! She's anything but boring. I might have used the word creep instead. She just is nothing like the girl next door, which of course JA seems to be.

Alicia -- part of what makes AJ gross, in my opinion, is what she said in an interview a couple of years ago. I can't put the exact quote here (I'm a mod, after all), but she said that she wanted to "know" a certain something about every single person before she dies (in regards to one of the five senses).

Brad Pitt treated for meningitis
Doctors originally thought he had flu like symptoms. Turns out it was meningitis - yikes, poor guy. I don't like how's he's probably taken up with AJ, but I don't want him to get this sick! No mention of Jen coming by for a visit, either at the hospital or home. Don't even mention that Jolie person.....

Brad Pitt treated for meningitis
Wednesday, July 13, 2005; Posted: 9:30 p.m. EDT (01:30 GMT)
LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Film star Brad Pitt was released on Wednesday from a Los Angeles hospital where he had been admitted for a flu-like illness that turned out to be viral meningitis, his spokeswoman has said.
Pitt, 41, was at home on Wednesday afternoon after his discharge and was "doing well," his publicist said in a statement.
The actor checked in to Cedars Sinai Medical Center on Monday night, a week after returning from a trip to East Africa.
Spokeswoman Cindy Guagenti said on Tuesday that the actor was undergoing tests but was believed to be suffering from influenza.
After his release, her office issued a statement saying Pitt "was diagnosed with a mild case of viral meningitis."
No further information about his condition was offered.
Viral meningitis is an illness that involves inflammation of the tissues covering the brain and spinal cord.
It is generally regarded as serious but is rarely fatal in persons with normal immune systems.
Pitt, who split up with his wife, actress Jennifer Aniston, earlier this year, traveled to Ethiopia last week with actress Angelina Jolie, his co-star in the movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," who went there to finalize the adoption of a baby girl.

I have a lot of respect for his humanitarian work. What sort of human relief efforts is JA involved in? None that I'm aware of. AJ is inspirational in her tireless humanitarian efforts. Now that she's adopted another child from a tragedy-stricken nation, my admiration of her has grown even more.
