Pitt/Aniston split.....

All I know is, I'm just SAD. Not happy about this. Read the rumors and hoped to God they were not true. Hollywood is murder on marriages! This was one that I hoped would make it, like Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward.

I'm not sure why but I was really, really saddened when I read this. I guess I thought this was one Hollywood couple that would actually make it long, long term. :(

I thought that they were one of the ones that was going to last! I saw the rumors as well. I think that they spent WAY TO MUCH TIME APART because of their careers. :(

Surprised, but not shocked.

Has a Hollywood marriage ever lasted forever?

Take Bob and Delores Hope's marriage for example...it's rare but some Hollywood couples are/were able to make it last! :)

I just wonder if celebrities are ever really happy.... I mean, they have the money, but who is really happy with that schedule, or without love?

I just read about this today. How sad!

Eric -- excellent example!

Aren't Courtney Cox and David Arquette still together? Kurt and Goldie seem to be off and on all the time, so I'm not sure about them. I think Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen lasted a lot longer than critics thought. Last I heard, they had "split," but I don't know if the big D was ever made final.

And let's not forget one of the most loved, enduring Hollywood marriages -- Ron and Nancy. :)

Oh thank you all, fellow female S2K friends - I knew I wouldn't be the only sad one when I heard the news. Terry, I was so sad for some reason I almost teared up! I never buy into all of those tabloid rumors. "Brad wanted a baby, but Jen didn't", etc. I just thought in time it would all die down and they'd still be together.

My daughters and I are all diehard Friends fanatics in this house - I'll admit it. I cried buckets when Friends ended. But I also knew it was time for the show to end. Both my girls were very sad to hear the news last night. Jim? I swear this is what he said - who are they? We all gasped!!!! Rachel from Friends....oh, then of course we got the rolled eye look. He does not follow Hollywood celebs.

I have watched JA mature! All 6 Friends cast members became huge stars that first year - almost overnight. I just remember being so happy for them all too. Not at all envious.

Shawn, CCA and DA are still together. They were pictured in People recently, leaving a sporting event in NYC. She of course looked to be back to her size 4 figure.

But I also read that Matt LeBlanc's baby is being tested for seizures. That was very sad to read.

LOL Yes he is available ladies, that is if the separation leads to a divorce....I prefer George Clooney a bit more but Brad isn't hard on the eyes either (my ex looked a little like BP, but years ago. Have no idea how the ex aged...he he...hard for me to separate the two).

I'd say they were successful because Bob/Delores Hope didn't have competing careers in the entertainment industry.

Not so the Hollywood "power couples".

I find it very hard to work up much sympathy for the Pitts. They had money, fame, power...mansions....everything. But, they couldn't get their over-sized egos in check and make time for each other. Too bad for them.

Having never met either Brad Pitt or Jennifer Aniston personally <DARN!>, I can't really comment on "their over-sized egos." Actually, in most previous press on them, whether individually or as a couple, both have come off as rather non-egotistical for celebrities. Also, many married two-career couples struggle with the problem of making time for each other. I'd guess that movie work is like other careers in that even a star can't always make a (shooting or publicity) schedule fit personal preferences. So, I, too, was saddened to hear of this Hollywood couple's disintegration. :(

See, I disagree. If both of them are offered parts, but the shooting schedule conflicts, then (to me), it would seem that one of them might decline a part--so that their marriage doesn't suffer. They could have taken turns making that kind of sacrifice...if they really felt their marriage was more important than their careers. It's not like they were actually working for the money, living paycheck to paycheck and needed BOTH income or anything.

Nope. Sorry. No sympathy here. It's too sad for them that they didn't make a higher priority out of their marriage. It's obvious their dual-careers won out.

Love doesn't fall from the sky and land in your lap. They don't know how good they had it, apparently. Good marriages require work and SACRIFICE by both partners in order to succeed.

They were LUCKY to have each other...but, apparently, that wasn't enough for them. So....now they'll go their separate ways and back to the Hollywood party circuit.

They threw love away, and I'm supposed to feel sorry for them? Nope.

What was said by JA's publicist is that they have "formally separated" but there is still a very deep commitment and love between the two. There are NO divorce plans. This deeply saddened me too Mary. The reason it did is because whenever either of them ever talked about the other in an interview, they would just sparkle, you could just tell that they really loved each other and they are such a perfect match.

Thanks Sandi - their love for oneanother sure looked genuine to me. I remember when Friends was wrapping up watching all the specials last year. The interviews, books, magazine sections devoted to the end of Friends. Almost all said JA was a very sweet, caring friend to all - not just cast members but crew as well. When the finale was aired, bows taken, finale party over, etc. I heard she lingered with Matt LeBlanc and she couldn't stop crying. He said she was just one big walking heart - she cared so much about everyone. All in all, JA sure sounds like such a nice person (a little different than her character on Friends, Rachel was a little snooty at times). I just wanted her to be happy. And when I read about their separation, I was so sad for her! As if I knew her. Well, I did for 10 years! And countless reruns I watch with my girls. We're all sad for this couple.

I'm not surprised either.
I'm deeply saddened by this culture's view of marriage.
I agree that they both could afford to turn down career opportunities to work on the relationship.

Just a shame.
I believe in happy endings, and it stinks when that's ruined.

Another angle to ponder....

Just imagine all of the other celebs waiting for their turn to date either JA or BP right now......they're all taking numbers!
