Historic Otto!!! Hurray!!!

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Tue Nov 30, 2004 11:24 pm

According to the "Eye of the Storm's Historical Search" there has never been a tropical cyclone forming on the last day of a hurricane season in the history of the Atlantic Ocean. The only tropical cyclone that formed the closest to the end of a hurricane season was in 1925 when Hurricane #2 formed in the Western Caribbean on the 29th, affected Florida as a tropical storm making a path through the peninsula as Charley did this year, and after leaving the Florida's east coast, the system intensified to a hurricane before hitting the Outer Bands as a tropical storm on Dec. 1st.

Just a little trivia that I want to corroborate with the experts of this forum. :)

We know that your information is true, but the information that I dispersed has to do with the date the NHC issued the 1st advisory on the system. We all know that the system formed long ago but the NHC were not prepare to confront Otto or something similar happened.

Actually, that 1925 storm made landfall on Florida as a Category 1 hurricane on December 1st. It is the latest hurricane to make landfall on the U.S.

No I think you mis understood me. I was just curious why some people are going like "Yahoo this is so cool!!! The Atlantic is tied with the EPAC now, yay!!! Yahoo!!! Yes!!!" when it's not a big deal who wins. I just can't fathom why you would want any more storms, especially after the h***acious season you all have gone through these past few months. :(

I see nothing wrong with "cheering" Otto's development. It's pretty neat how it developed during the last day of the official end of a very active Hurricane Season.

Also, we are weather enthusiasts interested in following and discussing tropical weather... so why wouldn't we be at least somewhat excited about such development?

The weather is all about balancing temperature, moisture, and pressure around the world. If you have low pressure somewhere, there needs to be corresponding high pressure somewhere else to bring things back to even. A hurricane over the open ocean...I say that's a good thing, for that's one less low pressure area that can develop over somewhere that has people.

Don't give up Joshua! Just compare it to some other passion you might not fathom. For me it's...why do people go crazy over some guys throwing around an inflated pigskin, spending tons of money, energy and emotions on what I view as *only a game*?

Yes, that's the case for some of us, but this time, I disagree. I believe most of these same people would be cheering if it were in the Gulf. And I've made my point before about certain people on this board who enjoy watching the destruction. Of course, they'd never admit it, but they know who they are.

Come on now! We love hurricanes because they are the most impressive weather event on the planet. No one here wants to see a Cat 4 hit anybody. But I for one enjoy the surf generated. Others have their own reasons. We are hurricane buffs because we stand in awe of natures power. Enough said!

Been a while since I last checked on the tropics. Not a bad way to end the season. :)
