Cat.6: Day of Destruction (November 14th TV movie)

#1 Postby iceangel » Thu Oct 28, 2004 3:19 pm

Cat. 6: Day Of Destruction  2 part mini- series

CBS-November 14 (Sunday)

didn't catch the time but I think it said pt. 2 was the following Wednesday.

I could not find a website but I did a google search for category 6 Day of Destruction and got some info.
Nancy McKeon is in it...I think I saw where Randy Quaid and Brian Dennahey were in it also.

Yeah, sounds like a real winner here. With an all-star cast like that, how can they go wrong?

But why make me wait three days for the Exciting Conclusion?

According to this site:

http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/entert ... 960916.htm

It's a 'giant thunderstorm'... in chicago... and it's labelled a 'category 6' according to the title...

I can't even begin to tell you what's wrong with all of this. But, a scale which classifies hurricanes being used to describe a landlocked super thunderstorm over Chicago?

Wouldn't a fujita scale make more sense? However I suppose "F3: Day of destruction" doesn't sound as appealing...

I wonder what nimrod greenlighted this idea :P

I didn't read this article before and am a little let down...not much though, because it still sounds like a great movie.

Category 6: Day of Destruction, Part 2

If you search for "Category 6: Day of Destruction" on imdb.com, the movie is listed, but there are no details or cast listed. However, I looked up "Randy Quaid" and discovered this must be an alternative title -
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0428144/

"Overload"
Plot Outline: A hurricane heading North from the Gulf of Mexico meets a tornado over Chicago. The new superstorm wreaks havoc.

Looks to my like most of the stars don't want their names attached to this.

No, they don't, because they already have jobs. This is one of those out-of-work-actor-seeks-any-role-whatsoever type of movies. If it holds to form and expectations, the script will make you cringe. Maybe I'll amuse myself by counting keywords -- frontal boundary, hurricane force, "this is gonna be bad"... stuff like that. Not to mention the number of times they'll use terms they have no right using but still want to show you how smart they are.

It's not one nimrod -- it's a team of nimrods. I can name five nature disaster sci-fi/drama turkeys that appeared in network prime-time right off the top of my head. This might be the first foray into the abyss for CBS, however.

What a pile of dung! Right in line with the day after tommorrow nonsense showing Giant Low pressure systems that work in reverse of a hurricane. I like to be entertained, but how about some basis in reality! I would recommend watching the last 30 mins for special effects, which will likely be limited and chessy with this budget. IMHO

It's all in fun.

It's all in fun. You guys take these movies way too
serious. A majority of the viewers will have no clue or care less
as to whether or not the storyline is believable or not.

Oh, don't get me wrong! I'm going to watch it and I'm probably going to enjoy it. But I'm still going to be shaking my head when they get all teched up. I love this cheesy stuff! :)

I can't wait to see this new CBS sitcom about a Cat 6 storm. My gut will be hurting before the night is through. These shows provide plenty of humor and are just what the doctor ordered so sit back and enjoy.

What do you guys consider to be the best films about hurricanes or tornadoes or whatever? Or decent films?

To rehash an older post...

the finest "earth's fury"cinematic moment....OF ALL TIME...IMHO, has got to be....

Grandma Ruth tugging a boatload of pain-in-the-butt kids, Termanatrix Sarah Connor, and Remington Steele through the lake of sulfuric acid as her legs slowly smoke like my Uncle Lefty playing poker.

Has me rolling on the living room floor every time it runs on ENCORE.

Dante's Peak. Sweet.

It must be hard to make a good weather disaster flick that normal people would also enjoy. They feel compelled to throw in sappy storylines and atmospheric conditions that defy the laws of physics.

But ... I do love the part in "Twister" when they get going on their first chase and Dusty's blasting loud rock music and Beltzer's belting out "Ooooooooklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plains." 8-)

We need to come up with a comprehensive list of all weather movies.
