S FL gathering...
Sounds like a plan! Actually, Boca Raton is just about halfway between Jupiter and Miami. Also, any ideas about possible dates/times?

Hi everyone. I'll be happy to help Boca plan a gathering. The Houston-Galv. crew has done something like this a few times and had great fun.
One of the biggest problems in planning a group meeting here in SoFla is that everyone has an idea - a picnic in a park, a sports bar, etc, and we can't please everyone. Let's face it; this is a mighty diverse group of people.
As a compromise, how about a place that has a private room or patio? I know a great neighborhood place here in Boca Raton that's close to I-95 and the Turnpike that would be happy to accommodate us, say on a Sunday afternoon or Saturday afternoon so everyone could come. They have a patio (kids welcome!) and the menu ranges from appetizers, burgers and sandwiches to full meals. Beer, wine, soft drinks.......all there.
Looking at the calendar, we could shoot for the weekend of November 13-14, or November 20-21. Any later in 2004 and we're into the holiday season.
Please PIM me or post here if this all works for you or if you're interested. Boca and I sure hope so. It will be great to put faces to the names we've been seeing here. If you'd like something later in the day, let me know that too.
Once we have an idea of how many people are interested and if which dates and times work best, we'll set something up!

My thoughts:
If you're going to reserve a private room, you need a good idea of how many people will be there.
In my experience, you need a lot of people (100+) to make a picnic work. Smaller groups are better suited for restaurants and sports bars. If this becomes a regular thing, people will catch on, and you might be able to do the picnic sometime.
BocaGirl -- what the name of the place? Let's actually name some places. I haven't been on Glades Rd. west of 95 in a long time, so I don't know what's out there. My first thought was Boca Ale House or Pete Rose's, but it looks like you all are looking for something more family-oriented.

BigDog, The name of the place is Khaki's. It belongs to a good friend of mine and I have already talked to him about doing something like this. So we don't need to worry about the room!
At this point - everyone - let's concentrate on the dates and times. Boca and I (BocaGirl) have picked the weekends of November 13 and 14, or November 20 and 21 as the best times. We understand that the place we picked and these dates won't work for everyone. But, if everyone makes it happen for the first annual Storm2K South Florida gathering, next year's party can be bigger, better and much more organized.
Please let us know which dates will work best for you and would you prefer a lunch, late afternoon or evening gathering. Then we'll take all of the responses we get and go from there.

gathering (Khaki's) for South FL
If this sounds like a good meeting place for either Nov 13th or 14th or Nov 20th or 21st let us know by replying, the more the better. Khaki's is on Powerline and Palmetto Park Rd on the SW corner.

Either date works for me. Personally, I prefer a Saturday evening gathering. Sunday afternoon might work, too, as long as this place doesn't get overrun with football fans.
