Less rain for northern antilles this week

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sun Oct 24, 2004 3:36 pm

cloudiness ... showers and thunderstorm activity across puerto rico
will diminish during the early evening hours leaving partly cloudy
skies with little or no precipitation. some early morning showers
can be expected mainly along the northern coastal sections of the
island but this activity will be brief. although afternoon showers
and isolated thunderstorms are expected on monday a gradual
improvement in the weather conditions expected throughout the
week.

The above from the afternoon discussion from the NWS San Juan.Finnally more sun for the islands after a rainy past week as more drier air filters into the eastern caribbean.

Oh oh no trade winds for next few days as the large low NE of Bermuda is changing the wind directions in caribbean. But the trades should return by late in the week going to the weekend.

virgin islands forecast discussion
national weather service san juan pr
455 pm ast mon oct 25 2004

. discussion ... still looks like main weather feature will continue to
be mid to upper level trough ... with axis located just to the west
and northwest of the local islands. this feature will move little
through at least friday ... and will continue to aid in the
development of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms locally
each day ... especially late tuesday through thursday ... when trough
sharpens significantly again ... as good shortwave swings southeast...
rounds base of trough and then lifts northeast thursday and thursday
night. at lower levels ... still have old ... weak surface trough
extending from the caribbean coastal waters well south of puerto
rico northeast across the leeward islands and then continuing north
northeast across the atlantic late this afternoon ... and it should
remain nearly stationary through tuesday. gfs is still showing
deepest moisture hanging along and just south of this feature...
which makes good sense ... but it never gets pushed too far south and
east of the local islands ... and may try to lift slowly back to the
northwest wednesday or thursday. thus ... although it will be a bit
"drier" tuesday ... still expect enough moisture to be available
locally ... at least where best low level convergence occurs ... when
given dynamics and local effects ... to produce at least some
clouds ... showers and a couple of thunderstorms each day. all in
all ... a somewhat unsettled upcoming week still appears on tap...
especially in the afternoons.

Well not a dry week after all but not rainy as last week for Puerto Rico and no trade winds until weekend.

puerto rico and u. s. virgin islands forecast discussion ... updated
national weather service san juan pr
420 am ast tue oct 26 2004

. discussion ... it looks like our local area will remain within the
boundary between dry air to the north northwest and moist air to the
southeast. overall today will be the driest day of the week with
prevailing low level winds still coming from the west. the surface
winds will start coming around back to north northeast by tonight.
wednesday will be a transitional day with winds coming around at
lower levels and by thursday the low level wind flow will be
predominantly from the east again. this will influence the flow of
increased moisture back into the area for the weekend. also a trough
at mid to upper levels just to our west will begin to amplify and
dig into our area more by mid week producing more favorable
conditions for increased shower and thunderstorm activity wed and
thursday. the moisture will not be significant at this time ... but we
will be quite unstable. the real return in moisture comes by the
weekend.

msbee the refreshing trades will return by thursday as discussion above says.

Yes B,
But hot without the trades.
Luis, is this normal? Just moved down here and some friends from here say it is not normal to have heat waves in October like the one we just had.
I have been down here all sorts of times of the year and never experienced these doldrums.
Thanks
