Ivan damage assessment on Pensacola Beach

Aerial photos on the developed part of the beach and a partial account of how severely damaged the area is. Some parts of the map are nearly all red starred.

I believe the cost of Ivan will, in the long run, surpass the current estimates floating around....

They usually do. The numbers they normally throw around are for insured damage.

Wow! I was trying to find the pier but can't locate it. I surfed the old one for the first time 3 days before Opal destroyed it!

Those pictures were taken before Ivan, nothing was damaged. I saw a site a while back with pictures like this taken after Ivan and they were devastating.

Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier, built to withstand hurricanes, also is standing. The wooden blow-out panels did their job and relieved the pier of the pressure and helped the concrete structure battle the beating.
