I searched NRL's archive for the best visible image for the strongest impact to part of Japan, including the small island chains. I had to use an infrared image for Ma-on since there were no saved visible images at landfall.

Yeah well when you are a big island in the middle of an ocean what can you expect :(

Well, you have to understand that Japan sticks out like a sore thumb, and it has an enourmous amount of islands. I understand only 3 hit the main islands, and all of these typhoons have been relatively weak and pathetic looking except for Songda.
