Any exciting stories from this years hurricanes?
I'm intrested in hearing any exciting hurricane stories you might have from this years crazy season. I personally went through my first hurricane(Ivan) this year, I can explain it in 2 words...Exciting and Terrifying. I stayed in Pensacola, Live in Gulf Breeze and I couldnt get home for a week. Needless to say, after hearing all the reports about how Gulf Breeze was washed away I was alittle anxious. I'll tell the whole story if anyone replies. Anyone??

Opal storm
I heard that in Gulf breeze people had to go to the attic of their houses to escape storm surge. In one story I read about,a family had to climb to the roof of their house during the peak of the storm.Just imagine standing on top of the roof during 130mph winds, they said they had to hide behind the chimney.
I'm interested in your story.

Your right Opal Storm, Several families I've read about and heard about had to get in their attic and then onto the roof during the storm. This was in the Villa Venyce subdivision. My mom know's a guy who's a shrimper here and he put his boat in Bayou Chico and rode the storm out in it. He said around midnight, he stepped out on the deck to look around, he estimated winds near 110mph. What he saw next, he said was something he has never seen in his 45 years of shrimping and he never wants to see again...A 30 foot wave smashed into the bayou and his boat broke its moorings and he said his boat sat on top of this wall of water, and then it dropped about 5 or 10 feet and stayed there till morning. So he thinks surge was near 20ft. Said he's never seen anything near this intense. To back it up, the computer in his boat also backed up his story, said the water went to near 30 ft, then dropped about 10ft and stayed that high till morning.

WOW about the guy in the shrimp boat!
Dont have an over exciting story but the eastern part of the eye went over my house. It was pitch black and I couldn't see much outside during the calm except for trees and branches every where I shined the flashlight. My mom called hysterical at 4:00am and said she heard on the news that 50 ft. waves were washing over Pensacola. I was too afraid to look out the door again.
Has anyone heard how much damage Joe Pattis got? My fav place to buy seafood.

disappointed
I got all excited when Trinidad was put on a hurricane warning. It would have been the first in my lifetime.[The last one was in 1933 June.] But then nothing happened. We got a bit of flooding the next day,in the central part of the island. I can always hope for next year.
