My drive into New Orleans this morning

#1 Postby MGC » Sun Oct 10, 2004 5:10 pm

Made the drive over to NO this morning to catch the Saints. The drive was a very wet one. One thing for sure Matt was a wet TS. I let my 17yo son drive. I told him he was making his first trip driving into a TC. We observed that the tide was up 2 to 3 feet and wondered how the bridges over Lake Pontchatrin would fare in an Ivan type hurricant. By the time we got to the Superdome the sun was shining. Matt was a very lopsided system.....MGC

...and the Saints are still a very lopsided team  . We went to the Palace on the Point in Biloxi and the first floor of the parking garage was flooded from the 3 foot surge and waves on top of that. Amazing how the tides react around here on just a 30 kt ESE wind.....

The I-10 Lake Ponchartrain bridge is constructed nearly identically to the I-10 Escambia Bay Bridge. Most likely it would have the same result from a strong tropical cyclone coming from the south with an east wind.

Well, tonight tides are 4 to 5 feet above normal in the Lake--particularly around Mandeville and Slidell---many of the streets near the lake (esp. in Slidell) are under water...
