Canada Hurricane Information Statement

#8 Postby montrealboy » Sun Oct 10, 2004 9:45 am

http://weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/hurricane ... nts_e.html

Hurricane Information Statements
WOCN31 CWHX 101200
SUBTROPICAL STORM NICOLE INFORMATION STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE
CANADIAN HURRICANE CENTRE OF ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 10.00 AM ADT
SUNDAY 10 OCTOBER 2004.

... INTENSE STORM EXPECTED TO FORM TO THE SOUTH OF NOVA SCOTIA AS
NEWLY FORMED SUBTROPICAL STORM NICOLE PUMPS IN MOISTURE ...

NEWLY FORMED SUBTROPICAL STORM NICOLE ... CURRENTLY PASSING JUST
TO THE WEST OF BERMUDA ... IS EXPECTED TO MOVE NORTHWARDS OVER
THE NEXT 24 HOURS. THE STRONG TROPICAL INGREDIENTS ... SUCH
AS RAIN AND CIRCULATION ... WILL FEED INTO ANOTHER NEWLY FORMING
STORM TO THE SOUTH OF THE MARITIMES.

THIS NEW SYSTEM ... WHICH HAS BEEN ANTICIPATED FOR MANY DAYS ...
IS APPEARING ON SATELLITE IMAGERY TO THE NORTH OF LATITUDE 35
DEGREES NORTH ... WHICH IS WELL NORTH OF NICOLE. THERE IS NOT
MUCH YET IN THE WAY OF SURFACE REPORTS TO CONFIRM THIS NEW LOW
BUT THE SATELLITE IMAGERY IS IMPRESSIVE. MOST COMPUTER MODELS
HAVE PREDICTED ITS FORMATION OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS. THESE
MODELS PREDICT THAT THE NEW STORM SYSTEM WILL ABSORB THE
SUBTROPICAL STORM ALTHOUGH THE DETAILS VARY CONSIDERABLY
BETWEEN THE MODELS.

THE US NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTRE IS ISSUING BULLETINS ON SUBTROPICAL
STORM NICOLE AND ARE CONCERNED THAT IT COULD DEVELOP INTO A FULL
TROPICAL STORM. SHOULD THIS HAPPEN IT COULD POSE SIGNIFICANT
COMPLICATIONS FOR THE FORECASTS FOR MARINE AREAS WELL SOUTH OF
THE MARITIMES. HOWEVER WE STILL ANTICIPATE THAT IT WOULD BECOME
ABSORBED INTO THE LARGER DEVELOPING STORM SYSTEM.

BECAUSE THIS LARGE DEVELOPING SYSTEM IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE PURELY
TROPICAL THE ATLANTIC STORM PREDICTION CENTRE WILL CARRY THE
RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL BULLETINS ... AND HAS ALREADY ISSUED HEAVY
RAINFALL AND WIND WARNINGS FOR MUCH OF THE MARITIMES. HOWEVER
BECAUSE OF ITS TROPICAL CONNECTION IT MUST BE STRESSED THAT
RAINFALL COULD BE QUITE SIGNIFICANT GIVING RISE TO THE THREAT OF
LOCAL FLOODING. STRONG GUSTY WINDS CAN POSE A THREAT AT THIS
TIME OF YEAR WHILE THE TREES STILL HAVE MOST OF THEIR LEAVES AND
THERE IS A RISK OF FALLING TREE BRANCHES AND LIMBS.

SHOULD SUBTROPICAL STORM NICOLE BE EXPECTED TO SURVIVE LONGER AND
POSE A SPECIFIC THREAT TO CANADA OR HER WATERS THE CANADIAN
HURRICANE CENTRE WILL COMMENCE DEDICATED BULLETINS.

MEANWHILE NO OTHER INFORMATION STATMENTS ARE PLANNED AT THIS TIME
FROM THE CANADIAN HURRICANE CENTRE. CONCERNED INTERESTS SHOULD
CONTINUE TO MONITOR BULLETINS ISSUED BY THE ATLANTIC STORM
PREDICTION CENTRE AS WELL AS TO CONTINUE TO MONITOR FOR BULLETINS
ISSUED BY THE CANADIAN HURRICANE CENTRE IN THE EVENT THAT
THEY ARE REQUIRED.

END/BOWYER

This was long advertised by the models and it looks like they will be right. This poweful system should merge with Nicole.

Similar scenario...1991.

I live in SW New Brunswick, and I was also thinking about the 'Halloween Storm' this morning when I viewed the models. However this one could even be worse, because the Halloween Storm reached it's peak much farther off shore.
