This is the worst I've seen out of Matthew yet. We're having a real nasty t-storm right now and the street is filling up. This is 3" per hour stuff.

Torrential rains awakened me just after 6 AM in Metairie, with thunder and gusty winds. My street isn't flooded, but I'm watching. Yesterday, Lake Ponchartrain was already high, as were Bayou St. John and various canals. So, if this rain keeps up some areas will flood.

Hope you all stay safe down there. I know the New Orleans area floods real easy and a lot of rain in a short amount of time is just what they don't need. :(

In Mobile we're just having a steady slow rain - total cloud cover so it is kind of dark. The kind of cozy Sunday that I love.

I drove around Old Metairie and it wasn't too bad. There were some downed branches (one had hit a car) and some flooding in the usual ponding areas off Metairie Rd. near Causeway. But other than that, we got lucky. The heavy rains didn't last but an hour or so. The drains were overwhelmed, but they caught up fortunately, though my oldest thinks it sux. Looks like we're pretty close to a clearing line and then will probably only catch some backside bands which should be lighter.

I'll give Matthew credit for being pretty much just a party storm. And if you like tropical weather like I do, that's something to look forward to.
