On the 18:15UTC i mean you cant tell me this thing is not much better organized then it was this morning. And to me it does look like a tropical storm. I dont know what recon is searching in.

A drop from 1003 to 999 MB in just the past few hours indicates to me that Matt is gathering strength. I expect the winds to reflect the pressure drop soon.

The center looks to be completely under the convection (or at least 80% under) as of 2pm CDT. Any word on shear tendencies?

Well, it looksl ike it's *trying* to get under the blob of convection to its east, though not very successful in its effort.

Very similar to Earl-1998....except Earl had more baroclinic sources to help increase wind speed....however, it is to note that the baroclinicity will INCREASE as Matthew moves closer to landfall.

Definitely strengthening.

I am getting reports from an offshore rig, winds sustained at 40mph gusts to 55mph.

Pressures are falling fairly significantly on all buoy's when earlier they were rising.

RECONN has found 35kt winds now and the satellite presentation is getting better with the Center moving under the CDO.

Pressure now down to 997 and that's a darn good drop today. No doubt that Matt is back!
