Matthew, Stronger on it's Approach...

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Matthew, Stronger on it's Approach...

#1 Postby chrisnnavarre » Sat Oct 09, 2004 12:14 pm

Matthew looks to be gaining strength..and it also looks like the main convection and winds will clip the SE Coast of LA and make it into the Florida Panhandle.....

We have terrible Ivan damage here in and around Navarre. Can somebody give me an update as to what they think the current shear might do to limit or further aid intensification and when we might expect the weather to start going downhill here...

Hey Chris, looks like Pensacola eastward will see some squalls with gusts maybe to 40mph and some heavy rain beginning later today and into tomorrow. The center of Mathew is not the important thing, all of it's heaviest convection and winds are on the north to east side of the center extending out 150 miles or so.

So do you guys think that Matthew will regain TS status prior to making landfall?

OK, Matthew may not be a let-down after all. Let's see what happens.

I was just checking out the floater infrared loop and it looks like Matthew's trying to suck some moisture up from the Bay of Campeche. Does anyone else see that happening? Or am I seeing things? (Possible with a raging sinus infection!) I guess what I'm concerned about is, if he does start sucking up more moisture, that this rain even could be longer than they are predicting. That it could go beyond tomorrow. Any thoughts on this?

According to TWC, the area of landfall of TD Matthew has shifted west and the area of Ala/Fla Panhandle seems to be spared. Hope we can take the rain for all of you still recovering from Ivan.

Spared is hardly the word...even with the center going in near NOLA...the thing is so disorganized people over there are likely to see that same effects as people as far as pensacola

"Spared" may not have been the right word to use, but I meant that hopefully, we, here in LA, can take the majority of the rainfall and the areas further east not get as much.
