Once Matt gets inland as a tropical storm, we will have broken the all time U.S. landfall record for a single season. The previous record was 8 in 1985 and 2002
Alex, Bonnie, Charley, Frances, Gaston, Hermine, Ivan, Jeanne, and now Matthew. This year, we've had 9 (or will have this week-end)
Nicole wont bring us to 10, thats likely a Canadian landfall

1886 was reanalyzed by AOML (HURDAT) to have the record for landfalling hurricanes with 7 ... including the devastating near CAT 5 (highest end CAT 4) Indianola, TX hurricane ...

Alex making landfall
Here is a link to Jesse Bass' web page where he posted his Mobile Threat Net radar images of Alex. This is NWS radar being interpreted through the Baron's Mobile Threat Net via XM Satellite receiver. This is not our own radar- it is NWS Doppler radar out of MHX:
As you can see, the eye is just a hair onshore- but clearly it made landfall by just a mile or so. Count it baby...I was there!
