Politics
You know, all the talk about politics is off-base. This isn't about politics. This is about an apparent concerted effort to keep certain data points away from public dissemination for a period of time.
To the person that said the Vortex was available an hour before the advisory, prove it. The time stamp on the NHC FTP server is enough for me.

I had the advisory just fine. Check one of the weather inetrfaces. NHC dissiminates the info (which they dont even have to do, giving info to weather weenies is not their job) in a very timely manner.
Prove to us, since you made the accusation regarding guilt on behalf of the NHC, that they are hiding the data.

I went back and read what he had to say it and seemed like he was most irritated by the fact that Recon wasn't ready to begin with. Pehaps because he's been keying on the area for development for a week and a half, he figures that it should have been an obvious pre-planned area for investigation. And then with the GFDL model (one the NHC does mention from time to time) busted out with the hurricane in LA, then people's lives can be at stake. He did reference Jerry where people died evacuating in the middle of the storm, and that is fair when those of us not in the know or paying any attention get hit from a day or two out without prior warning. What I most appreciated was that his admitting that he's if he's wrong, he's just blowing smoke.
So I would have to say his post was fair. I can't say if it's accurate.

And aside from a lot of us on the weather messageboards that can interpret these vortex messages, there are millions that cannot and would actually lead to more confusion ...
Trust me on this when I say that even BEFORE we see "official advisories" from the NHC, they make conference calls to the WFO's that are going to be affected and surrounding WFO's as well, and coordinate information well before the advisory comes out ...
WFO's I KNOW for a fact will correspond with agencies, and the oil rigs are no different ... trust me when I say that they get a LOT of information much faster than the general public ... you can bet on it ...

Good for you.
I did prove it: the time stamp on the FTP server.
