I-10 bridge reopens

I'm curious how they manged to fix the westbound span. It had missing sections too? It doesn't seem like enough time has passed to cast new sections from scratch. Did they use cranes to pull up the old sections off the bottom?

They took sections from the other span and used them to fix the westbound span. New sections will be brought in to fix the eastbound span.

Some type of quick dry concrete that they have "blown" on the sections. It was explained to me, but I forgot what was said.

I drove it the past 2 days! It's so nice to even have one side open. The traffic was getting TERRIBLE with it out. The crews did an AWESOME job. Long ways to go on the Eastbound side now...... There are a ton of sections missing.

Seems like they would have to raise any sunken sections from the bottom, wouldn't they? Those sections would only bump the bridge in the next storm.

I don't know anything about it, but they have temporary cantilevered steel sections they can span the gaps with to open the highway. Just slapping sections back on damaged piers doesn't sound right to me. Maybe they righted and re-drove the piers before re-setting the decks.

As someone else pointed out, shows what they can do when they need to. If this job was on a regular schedule it would take a year...
