wolffeeder,

Those little black crazy ants are a pain to get rid of.I was told they are "sugar ants." We had a problem with them after Frances but found some really good stuff if you still have a problem and are interested I can dig up the name of it. Just pm me if you need it.

Sounds like the Terro stuff you can get at Walgreens, Eckerds, Wal-Mart, etc. It works really well for those pesky little ants! Comes in a small bottle with little cardboard squares to put the stuff on and just let 'em flock to it. They disappear in just about a day but you may have to do it more than once. Good luck!

I am not an environmentalist or snake lover, so please don't go off on me :D . However, arbitrary killing of snakes because we don't like them is very short sighted. Their biological purpose is to keep the populations of rodents, insects, and other vermin in check. Killing snakes is killing the opportunity to lessen some of the vermin that is making life miserable right now. Please give them an break if you can, and that may mean giving them the right-of-way. They will move on.

The same snake/critter phenomenon happened to us in NC with both Fran and Flloyd. It is not easy to just let these things pass when you are stressed out about damage, power, food etc.

I feel for all those affected based on my own experience. However, if you can, let the snake be, so it can go off and do its work for you. I pray that your recovery will be short.

Great post, I couldn't agree more! No creature has a greater enemy than man. Man usually kills in fear and ignorance. Even if you can't love all creatures, leave them alone unless your life is truly threatened.

Got a few more lizards in the house than usual.
More tree frogs on windows, and like cookiely, I have a poor, lone, squirrel who's been climbing on my roof, and screens and that's been hornery since Charley.
My mom, in Volusia had a black snake in her house after Frances...never have found it.
The mosquitos are horrendous, but I have to give credit to Osceola county that has been following a comprehensive spraying program for years.

The herons and waterfowl were right back after Charley. Last night those love bugs or other type of hovering gnats stung my eyes while cycling. They have some kind of pepper spray type acid in their flesh.

Snakes and bugs are the sign of a healthy environment. A big ball of honey bees is completely harmless. When a queen looks for a new hive the colony follows it and swarms around it in a nesting instinct...

Oh yeah, there was a small pencil-sized snake in our mailbox just prior to Frances...
