but...
I have a question.....kinda tied to hurricanes. We saw major surf action as a result of Charley and Jeanne to the point it eroded our beach terribly. See:
http://brunswickbeacon.com (front page pic of home and surf)
Charley came in at a CAT 1 level and eroded a good bit of the beach....Jeanne, although the waves weren't as high, did pack a higher than normal tide (thanks to full moon) but was a tropical storm when she reached our area.
When Floyd hit....we didn't have near the impact and Floyd was a 2 or a 3...can't remember.
Why the severe damage now...what was so different to cause this kind of damage this year and not during hurricane floyd.
Hubs and I are really rethinking Island Living. Thanks for the input!
Not sure if this is place to post this

Welcome, beachbummer ... and yes, this was the perfect place to ask your question ...
Brent and Downdraft are correct, the angle and where the two respective storms moved by Brunswick ... Charley came across Florida, and during its trek, the winds banked the surf along the beaches of GA and SC with a strong EAST fetch, the worse possible direction for Coastal GA ... In Floyd, the winds were from the NNE and then as it passed to your east and then north, the winds came around to a NNW to NW direction, or an offshore flow ...
