Accu-Weather Craziness

#1 Postby KatDaddy » Thu Sep 23, 2004 9:51 pm

Now this is silly. Ivan to be closing in on the BOC next Thursday. This is about as far-fetched as I have seen yet from Accu-weather

It sounds crazy, but who would have thought we would be talking about Ivan in the Gulf of Mexico again a week ago?

Another awesome Russian brings rain to Texas ;)

November 2001

"... news wire...

Texas storm greets Bush, Putin

(who are meeting at the Bush Ranch in Crawford, Texas)

Over the last two days, a deluge has immersed parts of Texas,
including the Bush ranch, with over 10 inches of rain. The storm
appears to actually be centered over the Bush ranch."

PRESIDENT BUSH: "The President brought rain,
for which we're always grateful in the state of Texas."

Bastardi's thinking is that the southern gulf and Western Caribbean are the places to watch next week anyway. He was crooning over Ivan on radar dodging land, tightening and dodging it again. He said the other day that it would be ironic if, in the Southern Gulf (his hotspot as noted), a piece of Ivan was part of the situation. IMHO, the ultimate irony would be 1) if remnants of Ivan were involved and 2) you had a situation like Opal where you have a system coming up NE out of the Gulf to basically a point close to original landfall. It wouldn't be funny for the poor people down in AL and FL, but it would be a bizarre ending for Ivan if it came to pass. (Btw, chances <1%).

Oh btw, the UKMet (originally the forteller of Ivan getting back into the Gulf), had a situation on the 00z runs this morning where it was out in the Gulf at the end of the run. The 12z brought Jeanne much farther westward, hogging the territory. We'll see (or we won't see, that's for sure).

Do you mean the NOGAPS? Cause the 12z UKMET I see is over FL.. not the GOM.

I think it is going to depend on how far west and north Ivan gets...If it goes on the track as forecasted then look for areas south and east of Houston to get soaked...And this will be by the training of storms from the Gulf..

thanks guys. I am just frustrated thats all. I have been tracking this ragged looking TS for a couple of days and it did exactly the opposite as I predicted....looking at the water vapor loop I noticed we are in a valley of dry air probably from the circulation from the north. I also noticed that the t-storms are breaking apart and only advancing as far as Beaumont... but if the NWS and you guys are saying rain then Im with you...... :D

I understand Rock....We have had quite frankly another strange year...Set record rainfall for June and then nothing since...But I'd rather get some rainfall from an approaching front then a Tropical Depression...History tells us that these TD's can cause as much damage as a minimal hurricane...
