Ivan just does NOT want to make landfall

#1 Postby PurdueWx80 » Thu Sep 23, 2004 6:49 pm

Center of circulation still offshore and it appears to be moving just south of due west now. Maybe he will hug the entire TX coast.

Some of the Models(Ukmet)was showing this riding the coast. This storm if Ivan or Ivans son is more like it is doing what his dad did.

Nevermind....I think I see on radar now what the NHC is talking about. Interesting...is it wobbling or really working westward??? Also...was it premature to discontinue the TS warnings west of Sabine Pass???

The Tropical Storm Warning goes all the way to San Luis Pass. That's well west of Sabine Pass, near Galveston.

I agree that's what concerns me about Ivan here. Not that he is much of a prolonged wind maker...but the rain has certainly increased and is heading west right along with the storm.

Well, I was outside working in the yard and I must say there's a really nice breeze out there. It's rained a little off and on so far, no biggie though. Right now it's just breezy with gusts to about 25mph. It looks green outside. lol

Looking at Ivan tonite, certainly not the same animal that we dealt with say a wekk ago with the major hurricane landfall during the early morning hours of Sept 16th over Gulf Shores, Alabama. However we must keep in mind that slow moving tropical systems are notorious in producing extremely heavy rain and I wouldn't be shocked if we saw over a foot of rain with this system widespread over east central and parts of southeast Texas. Port Arthur area could really get slammed with very heavy rainfall rates throughout the night. Doppler is indicating over 4 inches an hour falling east of Port Arthur, Texas. Dangerous flooding from rainfall is likely and we must remembet that most people die from inland freshwater flooding in tropical cyclones these days. Most people die in their automobiles because they drive through flood waters and most of this happens at night. Stay off the roads and seek higher ground as this threat continues. Beyond this weekend, where does Ivan go???

At the rate Ivan has gone and has done, it wouldn't shock me if the circulation's remnants head off the coast near Corpus early next week as a cold front pushes the thing offshore. Then the question is will we see this regenerate for a third time early next week?? I'm not saying this is a guarantee this could make a left turn loop, then move offshore. However it's a good possibility we must consider. Ivan the terrible just refuses to die off too fast. As Cantore quoted in Frances, "get this thing outta here please." I think alot of folks in Florida's east coast have that same feeling tonite as Jeanne makes her approach.

Well Ivan has made landfall if anyone noticed. Right near Sabine Pass it looks like. It's heading NW into Texas right now...

The center, or what will pass for the center of T.S. Ivan is over Bridge City now. The rain has quit but gusty winds continue. Two hours ago we experienced about an hour of non-stop intense lightning. I never remember having much lightning from past T.Storm or hurricanes.
