How about those upgrades?

#1 Postby patsmsg » Fri Sep 17, 2004 11:11 am

I know The remnants of Ivan are still causing a lot of discomfort around the Eastern seaboard and Jeanne is prowling, but I say, take this site down and do the upgrades to the Storm2k server & database now before Jeanne gets closer.

I don't mean to be insensitive to those in the islands or elsewhere soon to be affected, but I was unable to access the Hurricane Hollow message boards MANY times as Ivan was nearing. I'm sure others had similar issues.

I applaud this site, and trust in their judgement, but I recommend NOT waiting until the off-season. It shouldn't take that long to upgrade. Go for it.

Any other opinions?

The site locked up a few times for me about 3 weeks ago when I was keeping a tight eye on Frances, but ever since I donated $10.00 by click the donate button at http://www.storm2k.org, everything has been fine ;)

Honestly, I only received 1 or 2 "PHP The Database has become discumbobulated" error messages in the last few weeks. I say wait!

I thought the site performed remarkably well last week. I didn't expect it to be so available, with so many people using it all the time. Perhaps taking down the graphics and asking us to refrain from putting animation in our posts was helpful. Plus all the work they did after Frances seems to have paid off.

Thanks, Storm2k!

Yes. I too donated, and it has improved. Still, there have been times when it has been impossible to get in, and it would be nice if we could correct that now.

If we have to wait, I'm okay with that too, I suppose.

Only a couple of problems during Ivan-times. Nothing like during/befofre Frances. Seems like the site is performing Ok for now since we've had a zillion new members join.

It just seems way too insenstive to shut things off when the islands, FL, etc. may be affected so soon. Very soon if Jeanne holds together.

We are working on the upgrade plan. We will be taking the server down at some point for the upgrades bt we'll wait until we have a break without a threatening storm. I'll let everyone know when the main server will be down. We may setup a temporary board if it's going to be down for mre the a few hours. :-)

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a good plan.
