Hypothetical question

I would like opinions on this.
IF....Hurricane Jeanne was , maybe, heading for the FLa. Keys, Do you think people would be willing to evacuated again in lets say4/5 days?? Or will they feel that the authorities are just crying wolf????And if Jeanne was heading towards Miami or any of the East coast of Fl.???

Maybe not! But if it was a cat4/5...They might get out really fast :eek:

hhmm, just curious because I have a link to something and I have NO idea of exactly what it is, or where it came from, but I have never seen any of you all link to it before, but........according to everything I put into it, it is still coming back with the same thing. And it is NOT pretty.Of course, I understand this is all subject to change. But, Geez, can the people of FL actually handle another hurricane, let alone another evac in less then a weeks time. I am praying this is not so. :cry:

Give the people in the Keys some credit. Most there know the risk and know the danger. If they are told to go they will. You have a far greater chance of getting Monroe County to evacuate then Dade. People that live directly on ocean seem to understand the danger far better than city and country folk. It's a shame the public perception of hurricanes is still that it's an ocean/coastal event. Floyd taught FEMA and Emergency Management that inland flooding kills more people now than storm surge. Look at what Ivan is doing to the inland areas right now.

Well, I just got back last night from evacuating -- twice -- for Ivan. I left the Keys Saturday morning, went to central FL and then to the Panhandle, from where, of course, I had to evacuate again on Wednesday.

I'm not unpacking yet. The shutters are staying up.

I was ready to go for Charley and Frances, but relaxed once they were north of my lat.

Here, the main concern is surge. For a Cat 1 or 2, I'd stay. Most houses are pretty sturdy concrete block, with flat roofs. There are no huge oaks or tall pines to fall on houses. I do have some large ficus trees nearby, but they tend to break apart before falling over (these are not the huge banyans that always blow down).

Because I'm at the top of the Keys, I have only about 20 miles of road to reach the mainland, and there are two routes out. It's much worse to be in Key West -- 100 miles farther west.
