Don't know if it was leveled, but it is reported as closed to all traffic due to flooding with a note of "hurricane Ivan related" and estimated time for reopen as unknown.

Is this the Hwy 98 bridge? I saw the one on I-10 with the 18 wheeler, as well.

If I recall the number correctly, SR 189 runs from Niceville to Ft. Walton around the north and west sides of the Eglin AFB main base area, passing the Okaloosa County Airport on the way. The bridge in question is the first of two you cross to get into downtown Ft. Walton and crosses the bay with the south end at Shalimar. There are (were??) some very nice homes in that vicinity, as well as a couple of good-sized multistory office buidings, and a county courthouse. The end of that bridge was well above the waterline and that must have been one hell of a pounding. Now I wonder how Eglin held up. The officers club sits (sat?) right on the bay, as do the recreational facilities and the Naval EOD school building. At least the EOD school is in a somewhat protected inlet.
The other bridge crosses at Cinco Bayou, and I'm curious about how it fared.
I loved being stationed there, but Georges was the worst storm I had to weather. I lived in Bluewater Bay east of Niceville, and was in the Cat III evac zone (and close enough to the Cat II zone to get my wife and kids out regardless), and the house we bought in 1998 was 10 years old with a 3 year old roof courtesy of Opal. Columbia, SC is close enough to the action for me.
