I REALLY NEED INFO...

#1 Postby Anonymous » Thu Sep 16, 2004 2:30 pm

Please... I want to know. What was the offical winds at landfall?

130 mph was what I thought. And I mean REAL OFFICAL INFO because there are actually goofballs saying category 2. It was a category 3, but of what intensity? ALSO... what was this "EXTREME SURGE" and where is the "EXTENSIVE/EXTREME" damage?

...AN INLAND TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHEAST
MISSISSIPPI THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

HURRICANE IVAN MADE LANDFALL NEAR GULF SHORES ALABAMA AROUND 2AM
THURSDAY MORNING. APPEARS BALDWIN COUNTY AND THE EXTREME WESTERN
FLORIDA PANHANDLE CAUGHT THE BRUNT OF IVAN...WITH PRELIMINARY
REPORTS INDICATING WIDESPREAD DAMAGE ACROSS MUCH OF BALDWIN COUNTY
ALABAMA AND ESCAMBIA COUNTY FLORIDA. PRELIMINARY REPORTS FROM
ESCAMBIA COUNTY FLORIDA EMA INDICATE DAMAGE WORSE THAN THAT PRODUCED
BY HURRICANE OPAL IN 1995. ESCAMBIA COUNTY ALABAMA EMA REPORTED

FOR TODAY...THE CORE OF HURRICANE IVAN WILL MOVE NORTH NORTHEAST
ACROSS CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA THIS MORNING. THE CORE

FORECAST AREA...PRIMARILY EAST AND SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 65. WHILE
THE TORNADO THREAT ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL CYCLONE IS USUALLY THE
NORTHEAST QUADRANT...THESE RAINBANDS IN THE SOUTHEAST QUADRANT WILL
ALSO POSSIBLY PRODUCE TORNADOS LATER TODAY.

FLOODING DUE TO RAINFALL IS LIKELY OVER MOST OF THE FORECAST AREA
TODAY AS IVAN PRODUCES VERY HEAVY RAINFALL...GRADUALLY TAPPERING OFF
BY AFTERNOON.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...

NO SEVERE WEATHER IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE EXTENDED PERIOD.
HOWEVER...RIVER FLOODING WILL LIKELY BECOME A PROBLEM AS MOST OF THE
FLORIDA PANHANDLE AND PARTS OF EXTREME SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH CENTRAL

RAINFALL. THE AXIS OF THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL EXTENDED FROM NORTH TO
SOUTH OVER ESCAMBIA COUNTY ALABAMA AND ESCAMBIA COUNTY FLORIDA.

What is the freaking big deal? You can't possibly expect a 10-page report detailing every little thing that happened down there just 14 hours after landfall. Come on... You can't even get on the barrier islands and likely won't be able to for days, if not weeks.

From http://www.hurricanetrack.com :

"John and I have been out surveying the damage in and around Gulf Shores and I have to say it is bad. The storm surge has made its way up to Sawgrass Landing and Zoo Drive. From there, down Hwy 59 the surge is still too high to get through. We have not been able to reach our HLP vehicle but as of dawn this morning we had a web cam image being sent to the site."
