Thanks for all the info posted here the last couple of weeks, when I started monitoring. When I got to the point of winnowing out the good from the bad (wish I'd never heard of -removed-), it was really helpful. As others did, we waited for the 5AM advisory yesterday and left for a place about an hour from here when Ivan hadn't turned yet. We returned this morning with little problem.
I hope people realized how bad a storm could be for New Orleans, even if its not the worst case scenario. I live on a street that intersects the lake further north of here and could picture water making it here with a much more minimal storm, given the pictures the local stations showed from that exact location. I've already heard people say, from here and Tampa, that they will never leave for another storm because of the traffic they experienced, but I hope they'll think twice (and authorities can come up with some better plans). Traffic stinks; death is worse.
Thanks again and best wishes and prayers for our friends east of here.
Thanks from New Orleans
