Don't know why you'd be worried about getting flamed. You're doing better reporting than CBS lately.

It's turned back north and is headed straight for you. Even if it were to go a little east, you would still recieve major winds.

Things still going down here. Probably a good 65 sustained. I'm on Water Street in downtown....not far from TWC people. I'm thankful the bay's getting a crosswind.

<edit> Make that 65+.

According to many people here you are only getting 10 mph winds.

UPDATE:

The eye just passed over us. I used the time for gassing up the generator and surveying damage. This storm is every bit as strong as Frederic was.

I lost three trees in the front yard and two in back. One is draped over my power lines, fortunately the line is dead right now anyway.

In my neighborhood, I see two houses with extensive roof damage and one lost its entire front porch. Trees are down everywhere and the ground is littered with limbs and shingles. My neighbor's shed out back is almost gone.
Awnings and Fences are all over the place.

The wind is starting back up now, so the southern eyewall is now reaching Foley, Alabama. I will post more when it is safe to go outside again.

Hope you all are faring well. Good luck.

I heard on the local radio broadcast that there is a news crew trapped in a stairwell at a condo in Gulf Shores. I can't believe anyone would have tried to ride out the storm down there. I hope they are OK.

They are reporting major damage and flooding, The water is about a mile inland in some places.

Some guy calling in and saying he is in Pensacola. Says it was bad for a while but it is getting better. The news team said the worst is over for that area now. Santa Rosa county child killed when tree fell on a mobile home.

I can only give you info from Foley, but we are only 10 miles from Robertsdale and 15 from Fairhope/Barnwell/Point Clear.

Many, many trees down. There are at least one or two across the roads on each block. Houses have lost most of the shingles, many have more severe damage. Trees are twisted off half way up in a lot of places, the rest have fallen, some on cars and many on houses.

There is major flooding in Bon Secour. I had to wade through chest deep water for a half mile to check on my brother's boat. We had to saw several trees in the highway to pass.

I saw at least 5 large buildings that looked to have literally exploded. One was a Dollar General Store.

Everyone is without power here. Estimates are 1-3 weeks for power to be restored.

Elberta and Magnolia Springs have similar damage. I visited both places this morning.

The water in Gulf Shores is up to Fort Morgan road.

I will have photos up from this area soon.

The infamous Flora-Bama is either heavily damaged or completely destroyed. Severe structural damage in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach and water is covering the highway and has spread a mile inland.

Up here... conditions were terrible up til a little while ago, but not as bad as they could have been. We did have some gusts in the 50 mph range and we've got a lot of limbs down all over the place, but we've faired a lot better than people to our west. 700,000 without power statewide. We only had a couple of surges here and it came right back on. I was afraid it would be much worse.

We're not completely done yet, but the significant stuff is over. Looks like we'll even get a break in the rain here very soon.
