The worst is NOT over. I am listening to radio with people calling in from all over the coast down there. The eyewall is just now moving on shore between Gulf Shores and Pensacola NAS. Let things settle down before you go calling it over. For some reason to me, this whole argument seems terribly premature and almost disrespectful of those going thru he!! now.
Okay... I'll go calm down. I'm not checking this thread again.
When all is done I think it was a cat 2 at lanfall as said

Tell that to the people in the Southern Appalachians who are going to get pounded with 20 inches of rain on already saturated ground, plus all the people in the Piedmont that are going to be hit with tornadoes. The worst is just beginning.

Man, I'm sure glad you have your own airplane to penetrate hurricanes and drop dropsondes! What, you don't? Then why the heck should we care about your windspeed estimates?

If everybody would please look at your keyboards please and then look at rdcrds' name. Didn't spend much time thinking up a name did he? He doesn't care. "When all is done I think" he's a troll.
And with that, Tazzy, I'm done too.

I find it interesting that this is even a debate at this point in time. I will give you that the eye seems to be collapsing on the radar that I am seeing, as it comes on shore.
As for where the reporters are and how bad it is for them, knowing all these areas well, I can tell you none of these reporters is "out there on the edge" as they were in Frances.
I am certainly praying that Ivan is not as strong as it was in the Gulf, and that there will be less damage and many lives spared.
To say that the NHC or any other organization overestimated the winds for ratings is ridiculous.
