#1 Postby rdcrds » Thu Sep 16, 2004 1:15 am

I said it a week ago when it makes landfall it will be cat 2 and as i can see there are less winds then in francis.I am glad for everyone there but this over hype on some channels is false. The highest winds are 100 mph with gusts to maybe 110 but that is it.

They want coverage on TV and keep this at 135 mph with 160 gusts but that is a joke francis was stronger.

Hmmm. You raise a interesting point. However, I believe that this will be counted as a major hurricane, but at CAT 3 status.

You could argue as low at 120mph, but no less. Cat3.

things like this cant possibly be known yet....absolutely no assessment of the damage has even thought about being started....

there will be plenty of time for this discussion in a couple days.

HONESTLY...seen this argument going on for hours...does it really matter? This thing is huge...the winds will end up being strong enough to destroy many homes...the surge is horrific...tornado's coming out of the wazzo ...and people are already dead....and the thing STILL HASN"T COME ON SHORE! Wait an hour or two and we will start seeing wind reports and you all can start bashing again...(or not as the mods see fit) ..cant we all be a bit more patient.

You have got to be kidding. The eyewall has just barely made it on land and you expect all of a sudden to hear every freakin' report of wind on every square inch of land from Mobile to Pensacola? How 'bout you get off your high horse and stop callin' out this crap since you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Please, y'all-- the folks down there are just now dealing with the worst of it. This is no time to write the books. It is still a current event, not history!

He's getting this from the CNN reporter who said a few minutes ago that this isn't as bad as when he was in Frances. And apparently he's dealing with the eyewall. Probably has a large concrete wall protecting him too...

Gary Tuchman, CNN, in Gulfshore, says his Frances experience was worse. Ivan is nowhere near 135mph.

I can tell you that from watching the vids in Francis, what Anderson Cooper is getting now is what Frances had to offer.

....and the anenometer covers every inch of coastline Ivan is currently on. Along the IMMEDIATE coast they are more than likely expieriencing the maximum winds. I havent seen too many Anenometers parked on the beach. Also, these "maximum sustained" winds are not likely to last very long as the hurricane is a moving object, constantly reforming and moving.

What I am trying to say, is besides the ridiculous claim you just made, you do not and could not at this time possibly posses enough information on the current situation to substantiate any sort of landfall windspeed estimate or the like.

Yes..in fact..he stated he is being sheltered by a building. Hardly able to get any kind of accurate assesment from that position.
