If the New Orleans forecaster said that, then it's the N.O. forecaster who made a mistake...NOT the NHC.

BTW, the eyewall seems to be "repairing itself" in the SW quad.

the reported number is the max.......they dont just report the se quad for the heck of it...they report wherever they find the highest wind.....so the ne was lower at that time.

it was never 140mph this afternoon...the highest recon was 127kts...the highest advisory was 135.

the nhc issued the windfield advisory.....and the hurricane warning for new orleans....winds in new orleans are 35mph.....and the eye is as close as its going to be....

im just stating a fact...not blaming anyone...its just the way that it is...winds on the west side of the storm are nowhere near where they were predicted to be.....just an observation....not even really a discussion.

If you interpolate the present movement it should hook away from Mobile and bring the weaker west winds down Mobile Bay instead of up. They should still get strong winds of over 100mph.

It shows Pensacola taking the brunt now. Pensacola Bay should get the forced surge now...

I do't usually watch these things this closely. Is it typical for a hurricane eye to begin to lose integrity as it approaches land fall? My guess is yes. Do some storms maintain integrity through landfall?

Looks like that little piece of LA that sticks out in the Gulf put the hurt on Ivan. Wow...good news. It doesn't look nearly as imposing as it did.
