#1 Postby Brent » Wed Sep 15, 2004 4:32 pm

Copy-Paste from another board:

Walton County EMA is reporting that several are injured and possibly one deceased from a large tornado. Several people are trapped in buildings. Damage is described as severe.

I'm now more concerned about tornadoes up here than I am wind. I'm going to be a good 150-200 miles east of the center right in that favored spot.

a local nws forecast discussion...cant remember which state/zones... mentioned the possibility of stronger than usual tornados with ivan (typically hurricane tornados are F1) because of strong shear (turning with height in severe weather terminology)....

lets hope this isnt proof of that and things to come.

Probably Choctaw. That is about 15 miles east of my mom and yzerfan. Saw the warning for it on the weatherbug earlier.

So far no confirmation from ABC 13, which seems to be more concerned with tornado activity to the SE in the Mexico Beach/Port St. Joe area.

Walton County stretches from the Gulf (small spendy beach communities) to the Alabama border between Destin and PCB. If you've seen the movie Truman Show, the beach town they used for the set, Seaside, is in Walton County.

I knew I should have gotten a police scanner for my husband for his birthday. Would have been very interesting listening this week.

Research after Camille indicated there were probably more than 200 tornados spun of of her. But like a previous poster stated, they are not the Oklahoma or Kansas type. But, I guess if you're in the wrong place, at the wrong time, a flying 2X4 will just the same inflict enough injury to cause serious harm.

MSNBC just aired footage. It was quite large and transformers were popping in the background.

Tornado went over the channel 7 PCB station. So far they've shown footage from assorted tornados that's messy and debris-filled but have not confirmed any injuries or fatalities.
