I was actually very happy to turn on the morning news and see the major build-up of traffic on I-10 and 59 in Houston. That means LOTS of people are getting as far away as possible from Ivan.

I walk to work, so I didn't see what it was like on the island, but a coworker said that traffic on the Seawall was slower than usual -- people from out of town, driving along, looking out at the Gulf and watching the waves.

I'm sorry they had to come here under these conditions, but I hope that their stay here is comfortable and, more importantly, comforting. And I pray the return trip home gets them exactly there, exactly how they left it -- home.

there are actually 2 shelters open on the East side of the city. One i s in Baytown and I belive the other may be in Anahuac.

I take I-10 in the morning to get to work.... Nice to see the LA, FL, AL, and MS plates out there... even if the traffic did make me a hair late to work :)

While you're more than welcome.... I hope you manage to go safely back to your homes as fast as possible with as little destruction as possible.

Howdy folks, welcome to the Lone Star State.

The only shelters in Dallas I know of are Dallas Life Foundation, the Salvation Army, and Family Gateway (This shelter is for parents and young kids only).

Shelters are Baytown and Mont Belvieu.
