I hadn't heard the 12 noon road closure yet. However, I will say this... 12 noon is not the 'morning' and thats when I said i may leave.

Sorry, but my understanding is that's if the storm goes west of the city, not to Gulfport.

I haven't heard the road closure yet either. I think what people are confusing is the closing of the floodgates at 12 tonight, which will close Hwy. 90 going east from here.

What the mayor said was that "The window to leave the city is rapidly closing. At the very latest, at noon tomorrow, all roads out of the city will be closed." He also gave some alternate routes to consider, as the interstate is a parking lot.

If you aren't leaving soon, plan to stay.

Right, that's not true. If it was, then Camille would have been the end of New Orleans. Camille made landfall barely East of the MS/LA border.

My first hurricane experience and also my first evacuation were from Myrtle Beach during Hurricane Floyd. (5 states evacuating was NOT fun) The interstate's were parking lots and my friend and I had to shelve plans to leave day evac. announced...rather we left at like 3 am and left the city much easier and although slower than normal we did make it.

Have all you folks in my prayers tonite...be safe!

Where can he go for shelter that will be safe from flooding.
Concerned parent .

Not so necessarily. Traffic will probably die down later tonight, but if you don't want him to risk it, go to the NO website for shelter information.

Should be ok to evac in the morn at the latest.

The mayor has already said that all roads out of NOLA will be closed by 12 noon tomorrow at the latest. Good luck!

I seriously doubt the roads will be closed...... who will stand there and say, "Hey Hardcard, return home, this here road is closed." They say the same stuff here just to get folks in gear.

For Georges they barricaded the city in.

When he turned toward MS, the police refused to let anyone into the city.

 ...... hmmmm not sure what that means, "refused to let anyone into the city."? If you are evacuating the city...... ain't you going OUT of the city?

I don't know........ maybe the cops are different there, maybe they are perpared to stand out in 140 mph winds barricading in those who are insane.

They just said on the local news that around noon tomorrow they're
going to close the roads for the safety of the people as well as the
police.

You have to remember there is a very limited number of ways out of
NO so controlling who gets in or out isn't that hard to do.

It's not just during the hurricane that is the concern. Afterwards is just as dangerous - or more. Debris, downed wires, no phones, fallen trees, broken houses and no food or water to speak of. If you evac you are more likely to have clean water, food, gas, unpunctured feet, and on and on.

Remember the political problem with Miss. Hwy officials after Georges. Cops were stopping people heading out of NO. Maybe that is what he is talking about.

Oh yeah about that ridge. read OORT's latest report about ridge. he says it is there and that NNW to NW should continue at least until landfall.
Good Luck you Guys

OH yeah WWL is reporting that roads and bridges will be closed by noon tomorrow. I guess they just push the concrete barriers across the roads and leave.

Therefore: if you're even humoring the idea of leaving, GET THE HECK OUT NOW! By tomorrow, you won't have a choice any more!
