It could be very bad.

Sorry, but my understanding is that's if the storm goes west of the city, not to Gulfport.

I haven't heard the road closure yet either. I think what people are confusing is the closing of the floodgates at 12 tonight, which will close Hwy. 90 going east from here.

Right, that's not true. If it was, then Camille would have been the end of New Orleans. Camille made landfall barely East of the MS/LA border.

My first hurricane experience and also my first evacuation were from Myrtle Beach during Hurricane Floyd. (5 states evacuating was NOT fun) The interstate's were parking lots and my friend and I had to shelve plans to leave day evac. announced...rather we left at like 3 am and left the city much easier and although slower than normal we did make it.
Have all you folks in my prayers tonite...be safe!

get to the airport to pick up a rent a car so he can get out, he lives on Royal street. I am afraid he is stuck now.
Where can he go for shelter that will be safe from flooding.
Concerned parent .
Not so necessarily. Traffic will probably die down later tonight, but if you don't want him to risk it, go to the NO website for shelter information.

Should be ok to evac in the morn at the latest.
The mayor has already said that all roads out of NOLA will be closed by 12 noon tomorrow at the latest. Good luck!
I seriously doubt the roads will be closed...... who will stand there and say, "Hey Hardcard, return home, this here road is closed." They say the same stuff here just to get folks in gear.

I don't know........ maybe the cops are different there, maybe they are perpared to stand out in 140 mph winds barricading in those who are insane.

...... hmmmm not sure what that means, "refused to let anyone into the city."? If you are evacuating the city...... ain't you going OUT of the city?

They just said on the local news that around noon tomorrow they're
going to close the roads for the safety of the people as well as the
police.
You have to remember there is a very limited number of ways out of
NO so controlling who gets in or out isn't that hard to do.

Remember the political problem with Miss. Hwy officials after Georges. Cops were stopping people heading out of NO. Maybe that is what he is talking about.
Oh yeah about that ridge. read OORT's latest report about ridge. he says it is there and that NNW to NW should continue at least until landfall.
Good Luck you Guys
