interesting note re: postings on here

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

interesting note re: postings on here

#1 Postby Andy_L » Tue Sep 14, 2004 9:34 am

Seems to me that the closer this gets to CONUS, the frequency of posting seems to be going down. I would have thought it would wind UP in the number of posts and replies. I guess its to do with the number of people either preparing their homes or evac'ing

Good luck to everyone under the Ivan gun

Yep and i noticed the same thing. I think tht once people realize it has no chance of it hitting them they lose interest...people hang on thinking the impossible might bring it their direction and when that doesn't materialze than they lose interset which is natural. FYI, any chance ivan could hit south florida.

You have to consider that a good number of people who usually post here are under evacuation orders and/or are preparing to deal with this system.

As the storm gets closer people's attention rightly turns to getting ready and leaving. That's the way it should be. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those along the northern gulf coast! :-)

good point and certainly with the massive amount of power outages in florida the last month that will slow down postings.

Oh i do realize that of course.

I may be more than a 1000 miles away, but what happens there certainly has implications here as well. After Frances was finished down there she dumped 5" of rain on us here in a very short period of time as well.

IMO it is a combo of all of the above posts. We have the core people who will always post here who are now taking care of their own storm prep(as they should) the fringe people who only hang on and post when it might be headed their way and drop off when it doesn't and then those who are still recovering from the previous systems. Too bad there are not more Texans out here -- we could stage a friendly takeover ....lol... seriously though stay safe everyone, come to TEXAS

I noticed that on some other, non-weather boards too, with Charley and Frances. For awhile there were a lot of threads and then they dropped off... indeed, I'm pretty sure in those cases it was due to evac/preps.

And then there seem to be a few people who are posting after they've lost power during a hurricane (UPS backup? Typed in on a cell phone? I don't know - but dedicated!)

Tops in that was http://www.caymannetnews.com which was posting updates to its site (through what sleight of hand I don't know) when there was 1'-2' of water in their building.

As soon as I see that it won't hit my family, I try to stay off this board so that the folks who need can access it. Not always, but I don't lurk as much when I'm safe.

yeah i figured some people did that..i know my interest wanes somewhat. so its interest level, power outage and evacuations causing the posts too drop. i feel better now that we have that figured out..lol. too bad we cant get a solution to the tracks this fast.
