Any Camile survivors online?
Please help me figure this out. If you survived Camile how far inland were you. I know the coast was wiped out, but what about a little inland -say 30 miles inland. I'm just thinking a "what if worst scenario" and how to determine whether to leave Mobile.

I live on the beach in Biloxi, my house is just east of the mall, camille put about 2 feet of water in the house... the house has been surveyed to be 20 feet above sea level... pay atttention to what the estimated tidal surge will be, and know what elevation you are... if you have that much concern just leave... In Pass Christian the surge was probably close to the 25 to 26 foot range...
Ivan will be NO Camille, but still very dangerous to say the least... my opinion only
Note: I plan to stay on the beach for Ivan as well, especially since he should be well to the east of me...

I was in Gulfport for Camille. . . quite scary 30 miles inland not knowing that the coast had been destroyed. Even though the storm *may* weaken some after coming ashore - it really depends on the category of the storm and which side of the storm you are on. We raced Camille north that night. We waited too long to leave, and at the last minute thought we better get the heck out of dodge (it was forecast to hit New Orleans). It was pretty rough going.
I am also a Betsy survivor who lived in Baton Rouge - and she was only a category 3. We had trees down/power outages/quite a bit of debris that far inland for that storm. The eye passed directly overhead that night.
So again - just depends on where you are I think.
