Try this too . . . .
Here's a link to a good old-fashioned difax chart! (Sigh. I still consider myself young - but I miss the "good old days of these charts.)

Check out the forecast wave heights on this one. (You'll need to rotate it 180 degrees)
*NOTE* this is a tiff file, so you need some kind of a tiff viewer to open and view it. My "Windows and Fax Viewer" works fine with it. "Google" a free one if you can't open it. (Or someone will likely post a link to a good one.)

???...Where are you seeing 70 ft waves? I see 70 kt winds, but only seeing 48 ft open ocean swells...
Either way, that going to be ugly...I make frequent trips to Bollinger Shipyards and I know just how exposed they are.
Rule of thumb for inland reach (specific to marshland areas): Approx 1 mile of wetland/marsh will abasorb 1 foot of storm surge...If you're 15 miles inland and you've got a 25 ft surge, you're still going to have roughly ten feet to deal with, give or take a foot or two.

Would be interested in your overall assessment of the N.O. situation given your experience with Camille, of course.
A lot depends on the track of the eye as Ivan comes in on what the situation in NO will be. Your best bet is to contact your local authorities on this. They have done extensive work concerning this. I do not feel qualified to answer details of what effects wave action will have in the NO area and it has been addressed somewhat in other threads. I will say that there is a HUGE difference between the ocean crossing waves I saw and what the city of NO would get from the lake. Another difference is that Ivan is much larger than Camille was so the effects could be more spread out.
