If your met in BR said that, he needs to find a new profession. I'd love to see a high to a hurricanes east turn a storm NE. The only way that would happen is if the storm was north of the high, it could go around the edge of it. That's not going to happen cause the high extends well north into the east coast. Not sure what your met meant by that. It's the shortwave that is our hope here in New Orleans. If Ivan misses it, we've got problems.

I am really beginning to believe it. That is why I mentioned it because it did not make any sense. Also said the trough is weakening the Florida ridge and that is also the cause for the shift more N then eventually NE. I was told earlier that a second trough is what is going to pull Ivan up. If that is the case doesn't there have to be a high building in between the two to keep him on a more westerly course until that time later in the week.?

Well, hit or miss, I'm leaving tomorrow morning. I just hope that the lack of boarding up around here doesn't mean I'm hanging a giant 'Loot Me' sign on my house by boarding mine.

I'm not boarding yet...I did go get back-up supply of batteries, because they go pretty quick. Gas stations around my house have lines 2 blocks long down the street...lots of traffic, hustle and people blowing horns (be patient everybody)!!

I just checked out Nola.com (9/13 @ 9:34PM EST). Many of the schools have been closed for tomorrow and there are voluntary evacuations for some of the parishes for people outside the levees.

I really feel for the people outside levee protection. Even at its current path (Mobile/Pensacola), the properties can get badly damaged by the surge. If it veers left, bye bye anything outside the levees, and to an extent, even some areas within.

Your mayor may be looking at the military stats; someone posted the site earlier this afternoon and their model was over the LA/MS border...
