Just how high are those clouds at the maximum height observed so far?
How high are the purples that appear from time to time in the red donut of -80 degree centigrade reds?
Thanks,
Zip

Without radar information, I couldn't exactly tell you just how high the cloud tops extend, but I'm estimating in excess of 50,000 ft...possibly closer to 60,000 in some of the most intense convection ...

That's what I thought -- it's at the Tropopause, or it's convecting more or less into the stratosphere.
Wow!
Between the hot water at 30C and the Tropopause at -80C this thing has 110C, or 230F worth of fuel.
Also, doesn't this make it taller than just about any other weather system around it? Does that have something to do with how a big hurricane can "make its own path" (if that's real) ???
Thanks!
