Stormsfury, Are you trying to say proverbial? If so, that could be an understatement...

Man, the words you spoke are no bull. By my calculations, Pinar Del Rio is 80-85 miles Northeast from the center of Ivan. Can you imagine the eyewall? MY GOD.

80 miles from the center?? My god. Perhaps the hurricane force winds stretch out alot farther than expected? Imagine if Ivan passed a little more east. Total devastation of W Cuba.

From the location of the eye, it's 106 statute miles NE of the center from the 8 pm advisory ...

hurricane force winds extend out 115 miles from the center, tropical storm force winds out to 220 miles ...

If it is 106 miles from the center...In the hurricane force winds only go out 115 mph. In they are getting 126 mph winds with gust over 162 mph...I'm thinking that the hurricane force winds might go out a little more on the eastern quad?

Just imagine what this WOULD have done with Jamaica, the Caymans, and Cuba. I think Ivan is waiting until the end to unleash its true fury.

Possible, Matt ...

this is the 5 pm forecast advisory and wind radii information ... and with the eye 20-25 NM ... the edge of the eyewall would be roughly 80-90 miles from there ... however, pressure's also 914 mb ... and not to mention, there was lightning observed within the eyewall as well, which MIGHT BE tapping the winds ABV the SFC and forcing this very high velocity air downward ...

PINAR DEL RIO looks like it is near the end of the hurricane force winds.

Just a little geography to put this in perspective, in case someone looks at a map, finds the City of Pinar del Rio, and says WOW, that far away and they still got those winds.

Sandino is a little over 40 miles SW of Pinar del Rio (the city), and about 50 miles NE from the extreme western tip of Cuba. Pinar del Rio is also the name of the Province which includes all the west end mainland of Cuba until close to Havana.

Ivan's northerly jog was all that was needed to put the weather station within reach.

Before people along the Gulf coast start complaining about having no power and no tv or air conditioning, just remember what these people in the Caribbean had to put up with.I would say the aftermath is the worst for those people,my thoughts and prayers go out to them.
