North Carolina's Weather????

#1 Postby NCGal » Mon Sep 13, 2004 6:14 pm

Here in Raleigh, our local weathermen are syaing we could have alot of rain with flooding from Ivan. My question is will we have any winds that could possibly cause damage? Just trying to plan ahead. To all in Ivan's path, STAY SAFE!!!! Thanks in advance.

With the ground so moist it wouldn't take much of a gust to blow some trees over. Tornado watch boxes will be common IMO.

Not strong enough for widespread damage, but due to the saturated ground, some downed trees and powerlines will be likely.

I'm hoping the NC State game is dry. The chances are slim.

I was driving on Hwy 70 between Raleigh and New Bern today. The Neuse River is way up, from bank top to bank top. Smaller creeks are also up and flowing fast.

With as big as Ivan appears to be, a hit in western NC will cause some serious flooding, again, along with more mudslides. The center of the state will be on the eastern side of the storm and will probably see more flooding than from Frances due to the elevated river flows and saturated ground.

This could be a pretty miserable weekend! :(

As I recall, several people in NC lost their lives due to tornadoes caused by Charley.

With the anticipated flooding in western NC, I hope there aren't too many tornadoes spun off this monster.

I hope everyone on the Gulf can stay safe.

If we get any kind of rain from Ivan then I think last week's flooding in Asheville was just a "dry run" for this weekend. The rivers are extremely high and running fast. Before Francis they were very low and we had the worst flooding in thirty years in Asheville with the runoff from the mountains. Some folks still don't have their water back as the entire city water system was knocked off line by washed out pipes. Folks are busy trying to clean out their homes and businesses and salvage what's left from last week's floods. I'm hoping we don't have a double whammy.

Beach erosion on Ocean Isle Beach is becoming a problem down near the Shallotte Inlet. there are 3 or 4 ocean front homes not lookin so great with water washing under some of them....one trucked in 30 truckloads of sand only to watch it wash away a week later with Charley....

I hate to think about insurance rates living close or on the beach...ugh.

And speaking of NC flooding here in lumberton they had to open shelters. for the people that live in low lying area. roads were blocked off water rescue trying to get to people in their homes. its crazy. and this is not far from where i live. No we cannot hae anymore down pours or a large system coming to this state.

I'm in Asheville as well floodprone. I'm desperately praying we do not see the same conditions as we did last week even though i have a bad feeling about it.

Have bad feeling about mountains

#13 Postby chemist44 » Mon Sep 13, 2004 8:24 pm

IF this track bears out...it is the worst case scenerio for the mountains, all that moist air will be lifted into catastrophic rain. As stated the rivers are full, the ground saturated...it's gonna suck.......
