Retirement

#1 Postby iwanttoknowwhy » Mon Sep 13, 2004 4:18 pm

I think that the NHC needs to retire the entire 2004 hurricane season because everytime a hurricane is about to make landfall there is another one not far on its tail

I've been thinking that myself.

This season has been so destructive (alex, charley, frances, gaston, ivan) that I am in favor of just ditching this list completely, almost to remember just how terrible this hurricane season has been

In my opinion...

Alex. Charley Frances and Ivan are all shoe ins for retirement...

Good idea in theory about retiring the whole list ...

But Alex will probably NOT be retired ... effects on a grand scheme of things were fairly isolated ...

Bonnie ... the "midget" tropical cyclone ... only in a part of its life did it exhibit the look of a TC ...

Charley ... no brainer ... retirement ...

Danielle ... basically the only fish storm thus far this season ... and early CV recurver ...

Earl ... fell apart by its own relative shear ... but still impacted several Caribbean islands as a tropical cyclone

Frances ... no brainer ... retirement ...

Gaston ... strongest tropical storm without officially being dubbed a hurricane comes ashore across the South Carolina coast ... noteworthy for that reason, and damage is quite extensive ... but not retirement material ...

Hermine ... didn't like having thunderstorms around its core ... and ran away faster than Julia Roberts in the Runaway Bride ...

Ivan ... no brainer ... retirement ...

Frances would be retired even if she was a 50 mph Tropical Storm moving out into the open Atlantic.

Not a maybe...looking at the destruction and deaths in the Caribbean that's been caused by him there already.

Fran, Frances,.... Frankie? I believe future hurricanes with F R A N somewhere in the title should not be allowed to carry on.

Alex? No. The only reason would be that it was the strongest hurricane to ever develope that far north (North of 38 degrees, right?) But even then it wouldn't be retired.

Bonnie? No way.

Charley? Yes. No Doubt.

Danielle? No, unless the fish out there have a complaint.

Earl? Ha ha.

Frances? Yes. No Doubt.

Gaston? It's a possibilty. Look at T.S. Allison in 2001. Plus I think there is a solid chance that Gaston will be named a hurricane in post-storm analysis. What it did in Richmond is certainly worthy of retirement, but it will probably be overshadowed by Charley, Frances, Ivan and Lord knows what other names will wreak more havoc in the Atlantic. So IMO, it should be retired, but probably won't be.

Hermine? Ha ha.

Ivan? Yes. No Doubt.

Jeanne...we will wait and see...

Not as bad as this years K.....Karl.

Sorry to anyone named Karl, but c'mon if Karl has to be a hurricane name, it should be with a C. But either way, I pity the hurricane named C/Karl.
