MUST HAVE information for NEW ORLEANS!!

#1 Postby Pebbles » Mon Sep 13, 2004 12:08 am

This is a printable guide put out by the Mayors office in N.O. This is a good time to read this and put the excellent prep tips to action. If you have read it now may be a good time to go over it once again..... this should be the first step in your prelim prep planning as it explains 'what to do next'.

Definately take this one seriously. The NHS has very low confidence in their forecast track, and it keeps shifting west. Some of the models are starting to landfall the storm at around New Orleans. (Canadian & NOGAPS). Do not assume that the storm WILL hit you, but plan as if it may.

I saw their documentary on PBS about 2 wks ago. It was very informative.

I was alarmed by the responses local people gave about their concern for an approaching storm.

Quotes like: I'm not scared of a hurricane" and "It'll never happen here".

As the director of TRAC's "Surviving the Storm", thanks for the feedback. We'll be updating the program for the 2005 season, and God willing we won't have any new New Orleans footage. People here forget that Hurricane Betsy was a Cat 3.

Interesting. I picked New Orleans as a sleeper pick in an Ivan predictions thread a while back when nobody else did, now it looks like it could happen.

I just spoke with my wife on the phone. Almost all of my wife's extended family lives in the greater New Orleans area, and one of her uncles lives in Panama City, FL.

My wife just told me that we are expecting company tomorrow. Her aunt and uncle live in Bayou Gauche in St Charles Parish, and they live outside of a levy protection area. They are taking no chances and do not want to be caught up in 8 hours of evacuation traffic like with Georges. They are stacking valueables high, boarding windows up, and leaving tonight and driving here to Arlington, TX.

Her family in Panama City is evacuating early as well, getting time off early from work and pulling the kids out of school. They will be staying in Enterprise, Alabama with some friends. They are headed out first light at dawn tomorrow.

Everyone realizes that they may be spared because the track is uncertain, but all want to be sure that they are certain not to be uncertain about their safety.
