Any thoughts on the current situation? I have lived here my entire live and I worry about the thousands of people that have moved here post Fredric. I spoke with 2 yesterday that said they went through Danny and Georges and had a big party. They did not want to hear that their is a big difference in those storms and this one. I worry about people like that. I went to Wal Mart last night and it was chaos they had plenty of batteries but only maglight flashlights. They said they shipped all of their generators and hurricane lamps to Florida and did not expect to get any in. I am buying my plywood this morning, before it runs low. I have a bad feeling about this one. We have been under the gun many times but always dodge the big bullet. What are your thoughts on Ivan? Any word on supplies, preperations, etc.?
PS. I was supposed to sign the papers on a new building for my business today, I postponed it a week, no need to buy a building that may not be there on Friday.........

Although I am not currently living in Baldwin County, I have lived there my whole life until this past January. My parents and my wife's parents both live in South Baldwin County.
I think the mindset has to be to prepare the best you can. IF and I say IF this storm were to hit the Alabama coast, it would likely rival Frederic in terms of damage and intensity. That is not meant to panic anybody, but that is a possibility. It is still too early to say where exactly the storm is going to go, but the course of least regret is to prepare as if it is coming. That is what I have told my parents and in-laws.
My heart is still in South Alabama so I am, of course, very concerned. Like I said, we still have some time to see where Ivan is going to go.

I'm in Escambia County, Florida. Here are my personal feelings about this storm at this point: even if it makes landfall in points west of here (MS, eastern LA) we are going to feel a good bit of it's fury. I also think it's going to be very hard to pinpoint an exact landfall location until it's too late to prepare or evacuate. I am preparing as if I'm a direct hit and evacuating. I've got some supplies but intend on purchasing more, if need be, at my evacuation site after I see the reports after the storm hits. I'll be visiting my sister who lives a good 6 hours to my north so I should be able to find provisions up there to bring home with me. I'm assuming that Escambia County Emergency Managment officials are meeting this morning and will likely give further information this afternoon or this evening.

I made it through Frederic, but would hate to imagine anything worse. I am telling all my friends who haven't experienced a real hurricane that they better take this storm seriously. I have never boarded up my windows since Frederic, until today. If it appears to be on a course for a direct hit here, I am leaving, even though I am 10 miles inland.
This storm warrants the total attention of anyone in its potential path.
Good luck if it comes your way.

Actually they really do not know where the eye will hit until it makes landfall. I just got word that the City of Mobile will be sending home all non essential personel early today so they can make preperations. Also, you did not here this from me (I am in the National Guard) word will come down this afternoon on activation of Guard personel.
